The Adventures of NumNum
Lady NumNum Quacksmore, Nomad of the Never-Ending Journey belongs to @that-student-that-has-homework. I always enjoy talking about her adventures, so much so that I wrote a poem about them! 🍃 515 words
A duckie named NumNum, So our story begins, Enjoys an adventure, Fresh air on her wings
Her mama (that’s Fifi!) Prefers she’d stay home. “The world can be dangerous! It’s no place to roam!”
But NumNum thinks diff’rent, “The village is safe! The people adore me, They know I’m no waif!”
The world is so big, There's much to explore! So NumNum she runs To the open cafe door.
“Now wait just a moment!” Her mother does cry. But NumNum doesn’t listen, Out the door she will fly.
‘Tween the legs of the Scholar, And now she is free! Behind her a clamor Of an epic degree.
Down the path runs NumNum, She hides in a bush. And mama runs past her With the Scholar in a rush.
From the bush peeks NumNum As she quacks to herself, “Mama needs some excitement, It’s good for her health.”
And here comes NumNum, Her tail all a-fluff! She quacks at the sheep dog Whose answer is ‘gruff.’
The dog tries to herd her, But NumNum won’t stay. The sheep aren’t family, They don’t know her play.
But now comes the Farm Hand, He is on Mama’s side! He’s joined by the Adventurer, There’s nowhere to hide.
NumNum hisses and quacks At the two of great stature, When shadows loom over, Hands ready to catch her.
But NumNum is faster! She slips right through. And a reflection of light On water comes into view.
So NumNum takes flight now, To the river she soars. Where duckweed grows plenty By reeds near the shores.
Kersplash! goes the water As the Farm Hand falls in. But NumNum just quackles, “He knows how to swim.”
Water sparkles on feathers Like dew drops and pearls. It’s what duckies are made for! Cross the river she twirls.
Ah, this is the life Quite fitting for a Quacksmore. But swimming gets boring, It’s time to explore!
Now, next comes the visits Which NumNum quite loves! Or rather the gifts which Are given from above.
From the hands of her fam’ly, From Mama’s clientele, From all of the people Who in the village dwell.
A bloom from the Florist, And peas from the Cook, And bugs from the Gardener, From vegetables he shook.
The Tea Man gives crackers, The Blacksmith has seeds, And the Vet has ev’ry treat A duckie could need!
And last is the Cat Man With his flowerbeds fine. His house, it holds goodies And num’rous felines.
The kitties are sleepy, All snuggled at rest. One yawns widely ‘Gainst the Cat Man’s chest.
The yawn, it affects her, All day she did run. So down settles NumNum To nap in the sun.
She’s woken by voices, And now Mama’s here. But NumNum is tired, She won’t disappear.
Mama brings NumNum Back to the cafe. And NumNum is scolded Ev’ry step of the way.
But NumNum, she cares not ‘Bout Mama’s harsh tone. She knows Mama loves her, Knows it deep in her bones.
And now sleeps NumNum All snug in her nest. ‘Out may be good,’ they say... ‘But home is the best.’
