My gf just came out to me as trans, and wants to go by he/him pronouns and a different name now. (this is not the problem, just background) I dont know how to deal with my own identity bc of this? I've worked really hard to be accepted by my Catholic family as a lesbian and I'm very outspoken about my identity so idk how to make people respect both of us. Do I have to change the way I refer to my sexuality now? I don't really want to but it feels weird to keep calling mysekf a lesbian.
i’m not a trans girl or guy so i’m not that qualified to provide a solid answer (i’m nb so i have a better understanding than cis ppl would but i still can’t speak for binary trans ppl) but i’ll do my best to try without overstepping my boundaries. first of all i recommend you guys talk it out together and maybe take a little break to sort out your feelings. it’s important to figure out if you still love him as a man or as the “woman” you thought you knew. if you do continue to date him and you are attracted to him as a man, you shouldn’t identify as a lesbian as lesbians are not attracted to men
