Halt drills into Will the importance of blending in with the shadows and other typical Ranger lessons throughout his apprenticeship, and then once Will gets his mandola, completely shifts gears and is like “go attract the attention of this entire establishment with your lute while me and Horace (the notably unsneaky knight) remain inconspicuous and gather information.”

And Will is just like “cool!! I love playing my mandola :)”

Wouldn’t it have been wild if Cassandra passed at birth and so Halt just… gave Will to Duncan?

Halt and Crowley are so strong for keeping straight faces during Will's "graduation". I would've been snickering to myself the entire time

TEY is such a blessing because we get to see Halt acting like a normal awkward teen. Tripping over himself in Lady Pauline’s presence. Secretly rehearsing their next meeting. His accent thickening when he’s nervous. It’s such a shame that there was no such thing as video back then because 15yr old Will would’ve been significantly less afraid of the dark, mysterious, forbidding Ranger if someone showed him footage of Halt getting tongue-tied and stumbling around blindly for the chair he knocked over when confronted with one (1) pretty girl

The thing that makes me most angry about Gilan’s age is that, he’s once described as “the most junior of the Rangers” (paraphrased) meaning, he can’t be more than a few years older than Will, meaning, he’d only be in his early 20s in the first few books, MEANING, HE CAN’T POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN 12 DURING THE BATTLE AT HACKHAM HEATH

Weird thought, but do you think Halt ever thought about the fact that Lord Orman’s situation was similar to his own? Being the unlikable, aloof one, and having to content yourself with the fact that people preferred your much more charismatic relative, regardless of their true nature?

Seriously tempted to write a time-travel fic about Will meeting teenage Crown Prince Halt and royally screwing things up in the process. Someone slap me with a brick.
