There were several very normal reasons to either teleport home or make the slow crawl on foot, but plenty of abnormal ones not to today. Walking wouldn’t feel like enough of a rush. Teleporting wouldn’t take enough of her attention. So, after patrolling an area of Archimedes Ward normally ignored by the police, Passion stayed as she was, darting from rooftop to rooftop.
Her main plan here was to reach the border with Golden, but she hadn’t quite made it there when her attention slipped. Someone on the ground looked familiar just long enough for her boots to barely tap the edge of a building instead of landing solidly, and then she fell.
Down, several stories, on her back. At least the closest person on the sidewalk, an older girl, was about ten feet away instead of closer.
“I’m sorry,” she said anyway, pushing herself up with just a little more effort than usual. Obviously this could have hurt that girl.
