“Look at me,” Eloy said finally. Graham seemed to have reverted back to a childlike mental state. He stared into the older man’s eyes and cried out.
“I don’t want to do this anymore,” Graham choked out. “Please, just make it stop.”
“This is the real world,” Eloy whispered carefully, realizing that this situation had hit Graham twice as hard as it had hit him. That the boy he had spent most of his time around, was indeed suffering from his father’s actions. Not casuing the pain himself. “We don’t have a switch that makes everything better.”
“That’s your job,” Graham said, eyes filled with pain. “You’re supposed to make the pain go away. Do something and then things work out.”
“That was my old job, Graham,” Eloy said after a moment of silence. “I don’t work for your dad anymore, and you really don’t have enough to pay me.”
Graham swallowed hard. This was the inevitable truth. Nothing was the same, not even Eloy. He gasped as he felt Eloy strok his cheek gently. “If this isn’t your job, then just leave. Why are you still here?”
“Your father hired me to make the bad things go away...” Eloy began, forcing Graham to look at him. “I can’’t do that for you. I can’t change the world so that you don’t have to face bad things anymore. I can’t make that stuff go away. But, I can take on a new job, if you allow me.” Graham stared at the man but didn’t say anything. Eloy continued. “Maybe this is out of line. When I worked for your dad, I never cared much about you...in this way...” He struggled to find the right words. “This whole thing has made me realize who you truly are, and who I truly am, and I need you in my life Graham. Let me be your lover, I can make you feel like you’re wanted. I can make sure that you never have to go through something like this alone. I can’t guarantee that the pain will stop, but I will be here to help you shoulder it.”
He stopped to wait for Graham’s response. He wouldn’t push it. Not when the boy was so distraught and vulnerable. But, he didn’t have to. Graham leaned forward and kissed Eloy of his own volition, and neither guy had realized until that moment just how much they needed each other.
