Fans have been saying that Kamala's current comic book writers in NYX are racist and Islamophobic, which is a fair assessment. But they're also just so utterly creepy.
They introduced this Muslim character solely to make him a bigot, criminal, and terrorist. Which fine, let's say we accept that. But on top of that, his character design is creepy AF. He's this overweight brown person who wears a topi to signify his religious affiliation. They're making sure to emphasize that he's a religious Muslim for literally no reason.
I don't even have a problem with desi's being villains. Iman created Nitika, who absolutely slayed. Iman (and Sabir) gave her a super cool character design. She also wore nothing to imply any religious affiliation. No bindi or red string. She just had great hair and wore stunning jewelry. She could have been atheist.
The white characters in NYX are also being written in a completely different way. They constantly talk down on and belittle Kamala. This guy who also gave Kamala a severe beating at the beginning of NYX is now being saved by the team. He and Laura are also serving on the cover of the next issue. So apparently just like how Kamala had to immediately forget what Sophie did, she has to forget what he did. Kamala has zero personality outside of being their cheerleader.
