“Dear Dorcas,

I know it’s Christmas, and I know I’ve thanked you before, but I want to thank you again for all the help you were this week. I feel a thousand times safer, with the wards around the house. I still need to do more tests with them, but even without the testing, I’m calmer already. 

I wanted to give you this present in an attempt to repay just a tiny bit of the protection you’ve granted me, even if it’s only your dreams that it can guard. My mom has been making them for years, and she helped me make this one for you — I think it turned out quite lovely. I know it’s just some silly superstition, but the feeling is sincere. Mom is also sending you love. She fell in love with both you and Zoe on the spot, but I don’t think I can blame her for that.

Miss Meadowes,

My husband and I appreciate your inquiries as to his health. He is doing well, and the medicines you sent seem to have cleared his cough away. You may be pleased to hear that he will be returning to his regular business on the morrow. Unfortunately, we are not at liberty to discuss the ongoing deliberations about your proposal. The meeting next Thursday should answer your questions, and as always, my husband is willing to meet with you afterwards if you should have any questions.
