WE WON GANG AND I ALREADY HAVE A THEORY.

My friend and I had a rant after we saw the trailer cuz she is the only person I know who likes the game. And I was rewatching the trailer for the 10000th time and I noticed something. Every npc that the player talks to speaks in some way. All except one, the guy who puts his hand on the hero’s shoulder when Humphrey says ‘chancers’.

Now.

I might be being delusional. Or too in love to accept anything else. But I KNOW THAT PRETTY BROWN HAIR. I KNOW THAT NOSE. And I am CONVINCED that that mf has to be my boy Reaver.

He is the only npc that doesn’t speak, even the player speaks. Reaver has the most recognisable voice in the entire franchise (Therese being closely behind) thanks to the goat that is Stephen Fry. If Reaver was in the game they wouldn’t show any voice lines, they’d wanna have a semi big reveal like they did in Fable 3. Leaving hints throughout the game before they introduce him into the story.

And with this game being set before 2 (the guild being very much alive and very much not burned) this potentially being Reaver means that’ll be before Oakvale burned. MEANING WE MIGHT SEE IT.

And the hand on shoulder? The look? THE SUNSET? ROMANTIC MUCH?

WHAT IF???? JUST WHAT IF???? The ‘her’ that Reaver talks about in his diary entries in Fable 2 is the hero we play as in this game. It’s not as likely mainly because we don’t know if the hero will be strictly female, we may get a gender selection. But imagine!!!!! I will take any excuse to romance reaver! Even if that means I’ll be killed in a town spread fire after he sacrificed me to stay a pretty boy forever!

Solely because I like to hurt my emotions, I want Lark to remember his experience in Oakvake pretty fondly.

It’s one of the last times he can remember being happy with his dad! He got to do fun stuff like dungeon crawling and running away from his grandma autumn! His dad let him participate in a fight, and in pretty sure he got French fries out of the experience too.

In contrast; I want sparrow to fucking HATE Oakvale because of the fight with Barry and Lark getting literally murdered. I don’t want Barry to be forgiven— maybe sparrow tried, but even as the old half-elf became more and more docile, sparrow still can’t help but see him as the same threat. I also think that he’d be more likely to recognize that it was Immediately after Oakvale that Lark became more cold and closed-off, and that their own grandmother clearly didn’t want them around. The naming scheme of his children was probably one of those “meet in the middle” things Rebecca recommends where everyone leaves unhappy.

“How does this hurt you?” Well, it means that when Henry holed up in Oakvale after essentially going no contact with his sons, he’s gone to the One Place Sparrow is going to want to avoid with his life, and is additionally preventing Lark from going back and maybe learning more from his badass cleric grandma. Sparrow wants to connect with his dad but can’t stand where he went to hide, and Lark wants to learn more about his family but has No desire to see his dad or go alone. Everyone leaves unhappy!

In the large meeting hall, his father’s voice always echoed.

It rang crisp, from the pedestal he stood at, all the way to the back pews, and commanded the attention of their people. A strong voice, conviction and hard earned confidence behind it.

Henry’s voice never had never gone that far. During communion, on the rare occasion he was called up to speak as he was tonight, his voice barely reached a foot in front of him. The image of his mother, barely ten feet in front of the podium, tilting her head and straining to hear him, was burned into his memory.

He avoided getting in front of the rest of Oakvale when he could help it.

“And Hen, why do you avoid it?” His father asked.

Even with the hall empty, his voice traveled far. Henry’s mother stood at the back of the hall and looked out the dusty windows, towards the endless forest beyond their community, as if unaffected — but Henry knew she could hear every word her husband uttered, clear as the sky outside.

He wondered if his mother was as embarrassed of Henry as his father was.

Henry twisted his hands together. Twenty and two years old and he could still barely look his father in the eye.

“Because— because I’m scared.”

“No, not because you’re scared. It is because you are not good enough, despite asking for the role as speaker.”

“Father, I didn’t. I didn’t— I wouldn’t have.”

“Oh, but you did, Hen.”

Henry’s mind raced. His fingers began to hurt, as he continued to twist them together, knotting them unnaturally. He couldn’t remember that. Had he truly asked.

“Well, I- I’m—“

His father rolled his eyes. “Speak clearly, Hen.”

“I mean…” Henry couldn’t remember asking. Had he truly forgotten? The guilt sat heavy in his stomach. “I’m sorry, Father.”

“Hen, when you fail, you embarrass me. Do not ask again, if you are unsure of yourself.”

Had he asked just before the service? A day ago, a week? It didn’t matter. His father did not lie. His sincerity was a pillar of his superiority. To lie was to make himself unworthy to lead. To question his father’s honesty directly was treason.

“Yes, sir.”

With a sweep of his cloak, his father abandoned Henry there, to think about whether or not he deserved to be the son of a leader.
