The fast-growing Oak Fire prompted evacuations in #California’s Mariposa County, after it grew to nearly 5,800 acres before midnight. The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation orders and road closures for several roads in the area shortly after the fire began on Friday afternoon. The destroyed 10 structures; 2,000 structures were threatened, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said. The #Lushmeadows subdivision, which has about 1,700 residents and a handful of roads in the Sierra Nevada foothill area were under mandatory evacuation orders. Highway 140, one of the main roads into #YosemitePark, has been shut down. Evacuees said they did not have much time to pack up and leave as conditions became more dangerous. The update described fire activity as "extreme" with heavy fuels, strong winds and low humidity influencing fire behavior.
