So my poodle has heart failure and a slew of other health problems. Today she didn’t want to eat, she was panting, her nose was warm. Her stomach was huge and bloated. So we took her to the vet expecting the worst.

trying to watch My Big Fat Pet Makeover on animal planet and it’s hard because it makes me furious that there are people this willfuly ignorant who are allowed to have dogs. at the same time I am so happy that this show is a thing, because it will hopefully educate other people with obese pets.

Vet Clinic: Killing them with kindness

Yesterday at the clinic we had a lot of really interesting cases but what stood out to me most was an obese Pomeranian that came in. And when I say obese I mean massive, he weighed 34 pounds and looked like a furry footstool. One of the vet techs said "Sometimes we just kill them with our kindness". Which struck a cord with me because I'm not sure how any pet owner could see this as kindness to their pet. It's fur was matted to its skin and had some mats so large I initially thought it was a tumor, it could barely breath just standing on the table and we had to take breaks when drawing blood because he started choking from holding his head up, when the tech tried to give him a vaccine most of it ended up on the table because she had only stuck it in a mat not the actual skin. Every day I'm amazed by what people think proper animal care is, but I'm also humbled because I'm learning things that I'm doing wrong as well and in turn improve on.

We met an labrador-girl yesterday and I was so shocked. This poor girl was so obese - she tried to play with Sammy but she must lay down after two minutes with her toungh outside and heavy breathing. It breacks my heart.

She sayed that she likes it to eat and that she can not stop it. So she was like: I am fat, so it is okay that my dog is fat too.

NO, it is not okay. I am really fat, but this does not mean that Sammy must be in an bad condition too!

We humans have “an control” on our eating behaviors, dogs not! You can feed a dog until it explode. Okay this was a little dramatical written, I am sorry… But it is like it is. You are the owner, you must look over your dog! An obese live is not healty and it does not make the dog happy (I do not want to think about the health issues).

I wish I had the strenght to speack with the women and tell her how wrong her caring is. I am feeling so guilty…
