“Don’t do it. Don’t love me.” from cole
Soft Angst; accepting
It hurts. It hurts him more than he can say, because he knows why Cole is pushing him away like this.
He’s been hurt so badly that he’s afraid to accept love from anyone else, all thanks to the man that should have loved him.
And now he can’t accept love from the man that does love him.
“Too late,” Sunny says softly. He shakes his head when Cole does and moves closer to him, catching his shoulders. “Listen - listen to me, okay?”
He waits until Cole’s eyes meet his, and then he speaks.
“I love you. I do love you. I don’t care that you aren’t mine, I don’t care that you aren’t even close to being mine biologically. I don’t care. You are my son. You are my child, and I love you so much that my heart actually aches with it.”
Sunny pulls Cole closer and hugs him tightly. He holds on despite the squirming, and he holds on when Cole relents. “I am not ever going to be like him,” he promises softly, “And I will not ever let you be like him. You’re better than that, and you have me around to keep you straight.”
His heart cracks when he feels two hands against his back, fisting in his shirt. “It’s okay,” he whispers, “I’m here, it’s okay.”
