Steph had been expecting Tim, like he usual he tended to stop by the coffee shop she worked at and she’d make him his usual or force him to try something new she concocted. Instead, she came face to face with his friend, Olivia. The one in the group chat who very much pointed out her crush on Tim and embarrassed Steph beyond mortification. “Can I help you?” Her tone was short, no customer service voice or smile on her face. She tended to be a petty individual at times, when she was angry she could hold grudges beyond belief, so she was still very much holding one for the girl in question she had yet to meet until now.

Sharon had a lot in her arms -- Clint was back (or... a version of him at least) and Sharon was trying to fall back into her usual pattern with him. To sneak into his place when he wasn’t there and move his stuff around or otherwise terrorize him. But today, she had gone to an art supply store -- without her impulse control -- and bought a lot of things that she thought could make some interesting new arrows. (For prank usage, of course!)
One of the bags split just inside the front door of the building and while Sharon caught most of it -- one of the glitter vials popped and a cloud of glitter-filled the room. “Fuck---” Sharon coughed waving her hand in the air, only to find that she wasn’t the only victim of her own glitter bomb. There was a young woman in the lobby of the building and well, oops. “If anyone asks, it was Clint,” Sharon said quickly. “And if Clint asks -- it was still him.”

Truthfully, he wasn’t even sure when it happened. He and Olivia were... friend adjacent, but he wasn’t sure he’d use the term friends just yet. (He was never sure when he’d earned it.) They certainly weren’t close enough to warrant any kind of physical touch, because Miguel wasn’t a particularly tactile person. He wasn’t someone who reached for people for comfort unless something was wrong, unless he couldn’t help it, unless something caught him so off guard that he lost any semblance of control.
He figured moments like these counted.
It was a stupid thing, but then, it usually was. For all his love of science, he’d never quite understood psychology. It wasn’t entirely his fault, he figured --- it wasn’t something commonly practiced in 2099. Those with mental health issues were locked away in sanitoriums like the one his mother had been put away in, less in attempt to heal them and more in attempt to keep them out of the way. Most everything Miguel knew about the human psyche, he learned in secret. (Or on accident. Lyla projected a conference speech about PTSD onto his ceiling once, not long after Dana died. He’d dry heaved over the toilet until Gabri showed up and assumed he’d relapsed again. There hadn’t been any sympathy in the way he dragged Miguel to his bed and camped in the chair in his room for hours after, like an unwilling guard dog. They never talked about it, after. They never talked about a lot of things.)
In this case, it was a bottle. Someone tossed it behind them carelessly, and it broke against the brick wall behind his head and for a second, it was like he was a little kid dodging his stepfather’s anger. He reached out without realizing it, heart in his throat, and didn’t realize what he’d done until Olivia was ordering him to let go of her. Miguel quickly pulled his hand back, using it to brush back his hair awkwardly. “Sorry,” he said, clearing his throat. “I wasn’t --- Christ. I don’t even have an excuse for that one. Look, I, uh, I’ll buy your next drink. Make it up to you.”

Her mind was on fire. It hadn’t been this way in years — and then she was sucked into the timeline again and spit out here — and the phoenix kept nudging her. Kept pushing on her buttons, whispering in her ear, reminding her of why there was a travel ban. There was a reason that humans weren’t welcome on the island. And the voice was hard to ignore on Rachel’s best day. But all of this… the thought of war on the horizon, the hatred that came with each glance, it all boiled up to the point that all she could think about was what had happened to her. If the dominos didn’t fall perfectly, the future she had experienced — that she had survived — would start a lot sooner. “That’s the problem,” Rachel snapped. “You guys never do anything until it’s too late. You wait until we’re broken and dead and —” Her throat felt tight, as if someone was already putting a collar on her. “Words.” Rachel finally settled on. “It’s all lip service.”

Rogue should have been the last person to hone in on someone slipping up and calling someone something affectionate in chat, but it was clear that something was going on there — and while Rogue might not have needed to protect Gabby, she did feel some responsibility to make sure she was safe. (Blame it on her connection to Logan — or simply that Rogue cared about Gabby.) And they were family in a roundabout sort of way, and with Laura out of town... it fell on Rogue to be the intimidating figure in Gabby’s life. (Right? Right.) “Any of that pizza for me, sugar?” She asked, offering Olivia a small smile. “Rogue. We met, sorta.”
just because a thing’s invisible doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Meeting someone on a rooftop and then going to lunch with them later wasn’t something Kate often did. (A lie, she remembered grouping up with the Young Avengers only a few minutes after meeting them and refusing to leave... so maybe this was just par for the course with Kate.) But Olivia had waited until Kate had a mouthful of pizza to start in on something... weird. Her chewing slowed and her brows furrowed. “Are you trying to give me an extinction crisis? While I’m eating my pizza?” Kate put the slice down and crossed her arms. (Was she pouting.) “Pizza is sacred.” But she’d play this game. “I have a dimension jumping friend. I know things that I cannot see and touch are real — doesn’t make them any less annoying.”

Kate was standing on the roof of the building. Earlier in the week she had set up a makeshift archery range on the top of it and she had been making frequent visits to it since then --- spending a few hours at a time there, practicing her shots. She was good, but she knew she didn’t have the training or the technique that Clint had. And she wanted to be on par with what he did. And that meant practice. A lot and lot of practice. (She thought about asking Clint to come up with her, but she wasn’t sure how to talk to him. Well, she knew how, but she wasn’t sure how to talk without looking like a fool. How was a person supposed to talk to their hero? Like a normal person? Really?) Kate heard footsteps behind her and she missed her shot. Cursing under her breath, she looked over her shoulder to the person who had come up. “I didn’t think anyone else came up here,” Kate said quietly.
