When: Imbolc, late night
Where: Capitale
Who: ofdarknessanddesire
A quiet haze settled over the Capitale as the unabashed revelries of the evening slipped into a faint murmur, everyone too well fed and watered to engage in any demanding physical activities (unless fornication was mentioned, in which case there was no lack of it following the celebrations). The dance floor had cleared to make way for little camps of people huddled together, not-so-hushed whispers of the latest scandals that had conspired over the course of the last few hours. Much to his pride, he’d featured in quite a few of those, rightly so. He didn’t know about another soul that had managed to give offense to just about everything the Unseelies had arranged and get away with it. If one managed to ignore the inevitable sit down Adare would have with him; yet another painful hour of chastising that would fall on deaf ears. Sometimes the knight almost felt the King liked him getting up to no good in Unseelie territory.
Mood in relatively chipper spirits, he dumped his empty glass onto the tray of a passing by waiter. All he needed was a suitable conquest or two to end his night with, a perfect little bow to wrap up what had been a gift of an evening so far. No sooner had the thought formed, it fell from a precipice of a thousand feet, shattering like crystal.
Lacha.
Maybe it was the universe’s way of letting him know a thing or two about comeuppance. Maybe he should have known better than to trust Camellia to have a conversation without the need to run to mummy. The brat. It didn’t matter now. What mattered was the Queen of Unseelies sending an unmistakable glare in his direction, a rather pointed one at that. Walking away would mean an unprecedented offense, one that Sorrel was keen to avoid after his episode with the Unseelie princess. His legs seemed to be made of lead as he made the excruciating ten feet walk towards her, his heart along with his entire body wishing he was anywhere but here right now. Well, if he was going to have a tiny window to redeem himself, Sorrel was hell bent on taking it and hearing out whatever Lacha wanted with him.
“Your Majesty.” Sorrel dipped into an overly gracious bow, stopping short before her. “Pardon me for saying what is an obviously repeated sentiment tonight…” he began as he rose, his smile of trade out in full force, “….but you look nothing short of breathtaking.”
‘Well…’ he thought to himself, ‘…let’s play.’
