Old Gun Ads: How Did Colt Advertise Its Guns?
In this video we’re taking a look at something very rare, a pre-1911 catalogue produced by Colt. But it isn’t a catalogue to order guns from. Instead, it’s a catalogue to order gun advertisements from! Old firearms ad from this period are fascinating and give us an insight into who markets company's were aiming their products at.
There are dozens of pages of gorgeous illustrations and ads, including a pair of pages dedicated to the 1911-predecessor the Colt Model 1907 Military - with its optional combination stock/holster!

1930s Walther PP and PPK Illustrations
This pair of excellent illustration of a Walther PP and the smaller PPK come from an elaborate folded sales brochure produced by Walther. The brochure, entitled ‘A Reliable Comrade, dates from the early to mid-1930s and features a holster with a flap which can be lifted and then the brochure could be unfolded to show various information about Walther’s two premier pistols.
The brochure’s front cover
The front cover features the slogan: “For Service. For Protection. For Sport.” In side are specifications for the pistols and some information about them, along with photographs of police officers and sportsmen. Other slogans include “Durable and precise” and “lighting fast ready to fire.”
