WHEN THE OLD MEN
Rex’s mug has “#1 Dad Grandpa Brother” written on it. The shirt joke makes no sense if you think about it any further in the context if star wars but shhhhhh i had to make the joke it was in my brain
old man rex old man rex
you know how there's a train model in that one room of Vanessa's manor? I feel like this could mean that Vanessa may also be a train nerd like Conductor
just something to think about
u have a beautiful mind. one thing i frequently think about is Conductor running the only train on earth. the day he first ran his train must have been huge.
also have a short story about a late owl journalist who signed a contract with Snat.
Was thinking about old man Rex but like as an absolute bear and started fucking drooling.
Original Scene - Rex Dies on Endor
*This is a full fanfic scene that was inspired by a fellow fan a while ago. What if Rex died on Endor during Star Wars? ALSO, if you want to HEAR the scene play "Death Of A Master" from the SWCW 1-6 season soundtrack while reading. Just do it....it is how I wrote this piece and I think elevates the experience tenfold. - AC
From between the trunks of towering trees Rex shot at storm troopers with precision. Bang! A head shot. Bang! A shot to the bike’s motor which caused the bike to explode and its rider to die with a scream. Bang! A chest shot. Slowly, Rex started to tire. A stray bullet clipped his shoulder. He winced. Another blaster bullet hit his thigh. He grunted in pain but continued fighting. More stormtroopers rode up on bikes. They shot at Rex. He didn’t see it coming. The shots hit him in the chest and threw him backward. As he fell, he fired shot after shot that instantly dispatched the troopers. Rex lay against a tree with stormtrooper bodies and wrecked hover bikes strewn around him. He touched his chest where the bullets had hit. Blood covered his fingers.
“That’s not good.” He said under his labored breath. Exhausted, he rested is head against the tree.
Ahsoka entered her chambers. The room was sparingly adorned and mainly contained practical items. A staff leaned in a corner by the door with a cloak hanging on the wall. A few, soft green and brown convor feathers stood in a small vase on a shelf. Next to the vase was a brown box. She gently lifted the lid to reveal her lightsabers. She sighed.
She slowly sat down on the floor in the middle of the room. She crossed her legs, closed her eyes, folded her hands in her lap, took a deep breath and opened her mind to the Force.
“I am one with the Force and the Force is with me…I am one with the Force and the Force is with me….I am one with the Force and the Force is with me.”
In her mind’s eye she stood in a barren desert plain. Heat waves shimmered from the sand. As she walked the hot wind picked up. It brought back memories to her time during the Clone Wars. Sand stung her face and dust caught in her throat. She coughed. Suddenly, she heard faint yelling and male screams coming from all around. A thick dust cloud swirled and engulfed her. Clone Troopers in Phase I armor were running into the distance firing their blasters. A clone with blue markings on his armor appeared out of the dust. Captain Rex. Ahsoka cocked her head.
“Geonosis?”
She remembered that day. The first battle where Anakin had really allowed her to fight. She had quickly become “Commander” to her men and had learned how the clones operate. Rex stared at her for a moment before running into the fray.
The dust wall dissipated just enough for her to keep walking. A cloaked figure appeared out of the dust. Their back was to her. She could tell it was a clone by the scuffed, white boots. She approached and placed a hand on their shoulder
“Trooper?”.
The figure suddenly disintegrated and was carried away in the dust. The cloak lay in a heap. A strange and uneasy feeling overcame Ahsoka. Something was not right. She quickly knelt and moved the folds of the cloak. There was nothing left but a clone helmet with blue jaig eyes. Ahsoka’s eyes widened. She looked up to find herself in a forest with thick undergrowth. Huge trees rose toward the sky. Not far away from her a speeder bike lay in flames. She rushed over to find a storm trooper’s burnt body in the mangled wreckage. A faint cough and groan sounded from some distance away. She felt the need to rush towards it with no reason she could think of. Her heart pounded against her ribcage. The forest was eerily quiet. Only the sound of her running through the underbrush like a fleeing animal rang out.
She slowed as she reached a clearing. Stormtrooper bodies were scattered across the leaves and through the ferns. In the middle of the clearing, an old man with a white beard, in rebel clothing sat askew against a tree. He coughed and turned his head toward her as she approached. Ahsoka gasped,
“Rex?!”
She rushed over and knelt at his side. Blood stained the chest of his green uniform, and his arm hung limply at his side. His hazy, amber eyes met her crystal blue ones. For a moment, a spark of recognition flashed across his face, and he gathered his strength to speak.
“Ahsoka? How did you –“
“Let me see.”
She placed her hands on his chest to examine his wounds.
“No, no, no.”
He weakly pushed her hands away. It was both an urgent yet gentle gesture.
“I’ve had one hell of a run”.
A faint smile crossed his lips. Ahsoka shook her head.
“No, don’t say that. Let me help you.”
She gently slipped her arm behind him and slowly shifted him into her arms. He groaned as pain wracked his broken body. She placed her hand on his chest and closed her eyes.
“I am one with the Force and the Force is with me. I am one with the Force and the Force is with me. I’m –“
“Ahsoka.”
Rex’s voice was quiet but firm. She looked at him and knew what he wanted. Her heart broke. He managed to chuckle a little before a cough shook him.
“I got old.” He sighed.
Ahsoka smiled and spoke through the lump in her throat.
“I wish it didn’t have to happen, Rex.”.
He turned to her and a haze began to cloud his eyes. He took a labored breath.
“I know. but my mission is finally over.”
Ahsoka gave him a questioning glance. He smiled even as a trickle of blood ran from the corner of his mouth. He inclined his chin toward the sky. She followed his gaze. Through the canopy they saw the looming Death Star suddenly explode in an orange fireball. It lit up the sky. In the bright light, Ahsoka turned to Rex and saw how truly battered his body was. She knew but didn’t want to believe that after all they had been through together – this was their final meeting. Tears shimmered in her eyes; He noticed her pained smile and slowly raised his good hand to brush away a tear as it fell down her cheek. His heart ached that he would have to leave her alone in an unforgiving galaxy, but he knew she still had more to do in her life. He was grateful that the roles weren’t reversed. He couldn’t bear the thought of her dying in his arms.
“I’ll be alright. My brothers are waiting.” He whispered.
She gently took his hand in hers and nodded. A breath rattled in his chest as he met Ahsoka’s eyes
“May the Force be with you.”. He sighed, closed his eyes and transcended into the spirit of all things to reunite with his fallen brothers and watch over Ahsoka in death.
Ahsoka closed her eyes and pressed the back of his hand to her cheek. She felt the life force leave him, she also felt a piece of herself follow him. Her life would never be the same knowing her oldest friend was gone.
Her eyes snapped open – she was back, sitting on the floor of her room. She paused for a moment recovering from her vision. She bowed her and took a deep breath but couldn’t hold her grief at bay. Her body shook with tears and silent sobs.
Rex lay alone against the tree in the clearing. He was now at peace. His mission completed on his own terms. Flaming shrapnel began to sporadically fall around him like a meteor shower or fireworks for a fallen hero.
