Please Don’t Go

Alexis´ perspective on how her parents are always fighting, and her father always leaves.

Alexis pulled her covers over her head, rocking back and forth as she clamped her hands over her ears in an attempt to drown out the angry voices coming from the kitchen.  

Blue eyes filled with tears, and she hurriedly blinked them back, swallowing the lump that rose in her throat.  This was what every night was like; with raised voices screaming at each other, harsh words being tossed back and forth between the two people she loved best in the world.  

The fighting had been going on for months now, starting with only the occasional spat, and escalating into loud fights every night when her parents had thought she was asleep, and wouldn't hear them.

But she did hear them.  The harsh words would jolt her out of a sound sleep, leaving her unable to fall asleep until hours after her parents had ceased to exchange words, or her father had stormed out of the house to head to one of his friends flats.

"If you really think that, then you can just go!  You can go do that if you want, I don't care, Harry!  Go on that tour and leave us here without a second thought."  

"If that's what you think, Jazzmine, I'll go right ahead and do so!  Just don't come crawling to me when you want help.  You already said you didn't want it!" 

The voices grew louder, penetrating through Alexis' closed ears even as she desperately tried to block them out.

"Don't go, Daddy..."  She whispered to herself, blue eyes closed tightly against the darkness.  

"Get out of the house, Harry!  I don't want to see you around here!"  She heard her mum scream.  Alexis flinched at the harsh tone her mum's voice had taken on, beginning to tremble as she waited for her father's voice to respond.

"Fine!  I'll go then!"  Came the harsh answer, and loud footsteps accompanied her father's voice.  

Alexis' eyes fluttered open, and she scrambled out from under the covers, stumbling across the cream carpeting of her room and through the door, out into the hallway.  

She raced into the kitchen, clutching her fluffy stuffed bunny, her friend and confidante during the dark nights of angry voices.

Harry was halfway towards the door, dark curls spilling onto his shoulders.  Her mother stood with her back to the sink, arms crossed over her chest as she watched Harry go.  Alexis saw that her mother's face was wet, eyes reddened from crying.

"Daddy, please don't go," Alexis called out, her soft voice trembling as tears sprang into her eyes, blurring her vision.  

Harry stopped in his tracks, turning around to look at his young daughter.  His green eyes were reddened as well, Alexis noticed as she stood in the doorway to the kitchen.  

He said nothing as Alexis walked towards him, bottom lip trembling as she looked up at her beloved father.  "Don't go, Daddy..."  She whispered in a choked voice, tears beginning to slide down her rosy cheeks.

Harry crouched down in front of Alexis, looking remorsefully at her.  He reached a hand out to wipe away the tears coursing down her face.  "It's okay, Lexi.  I know you're afraid when I'm not here, but I'll always be right here."  He pointed to Alexis' chest, finger landing right above her heart.  "Even when I'm leaving, I'm never going anywhere."  He said, a small smile tugging at his lips.

Alexis looked at the face she'd always thought so handsome, then threw herself into his arms.  "I know, Daddy, but I don't want you to go.  I don't want you and Mummy to fight anymore."  She whimpered against his chest as he held her tight.  

A gentle hand was placed on her back, curving around Alexis' shoulder and pulling her away from Harry.  

He reluctantly let her go, watching as Jazzmine pulled Alexis into her arms as she crouched on the floor in front of Harry.  Blue eyes met green as she looked up at her husband.  

"Jazz..."  Harry started, but a single hurt look from Jazzmine cut him off.  Slowly, he stood up, biting his lip to keep it from trembling as he looked at his small family.  "I'll see you around, then, Jazz; Starlette."  He said, winking at Alexis as he uttered her favourite nickname.

"Daddy--" She began, but he turned away from her, opening the door and walking through it without a second glance.  It closed with a soft click, an insurmountable barrier between her and her father.  

"Let's go back to bed, 'Lexis."  Her mum said softly, pulling her to her feet and leading her away from the door and down the hallway towards her bedroom.  

"When's Daddy coming back?"  Alexis asked softly, looking up at her mother with anxiously

questioning blue eyes.  "Daddy is coming back, right?"  She asked, fear leaking into her voice when Jazzmine didn't answer right away.

Heaving a tired sigh, Jazzmine looked down at her daughter, who was the perfect combination of her and Harry.  Alexis took after her father the most, with his dark brown hair and curls, and mischievous personality.  But she had the same blue eyes and gentle features as her mother, which Harry adored.

"I'm not sure, 'Lexis.  Maybe tomorrow."  She answered, forcing an optimistic smile while tucking the soft purple covers around Alexis as she lay in bed.  

Alexis looked up at her, stifling a yawn.  "I wish you and Daddy wouldn't fight...  I can't sleep when you do."  She murmured sleepily, and Jazzmine bit the inside of her cheek.  How was she supposed to answer this?

"I wish we didn't fight either, Lexi...  Just go to sleep now."  Jazzmine soothed softly, smoothing back the dark curls on Alexis' forehead.  "Mummy will stay right here."

Sometimes i just wake up in the middle of the night and it hits me. What if Louis was snapping at Harry interacting with other boys not because he was jealous but because he had a problem with Harry's sexuality?

They used to be inseparable at the beginning and rumor has it that at the end they couldn't stand each other. What could change that? Rumors about Larry? And that only? If that wasn't true they would just laugh about it. But not if Louis had problem with that. Harry never really spoke about Larry. It was only Louis telling that "people geniuely think" and that it is offensive.

So that's my biggest nightmare. What if everything fell apart because Harry came out and Louis had problem with it.
