"I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to be --"
Truer words couldn't be spoke by Ada Wong, there's a lot to run from, world thrown into Hell -- and she's still dancing with the flames -- and maybe getting accustomed to the damage, it's only been a few days. Force at first, can't fight the armies of the undead alone, and she's lot contact with employers. Maybe it's more the end than she realized, but she wasn't the only one running from something.
"Shane, right?" -- raw aggression seems to be bled from him, something that didn't quite fit. Forged by something, a darkness claimed by this shattering world, Ada's not afraid of it. "How about a favor for a favor, you already owe me." Day one, good words. Head shots to a few of those infected wasn't enough to get his attention, but she's manipulative. Whatever is eating away at him, she has a desire to know and she'll get the answers, even if she's forced to snip a few wires of that car, trap him. Steady fire-arm, she's trapped as is. On the road's no place to be.
No surprise when he's forced to follow like a puppy because, oh, sudden car troubles. That look. He's giving her a Hell of a glare, and she isn't even remotely phased. What's the worst he could do? Shoot her?
Doesn't matter, really. Now it's all rainbows and sunshine, three days of bloodshed, that's a Hell of a bonding experience -- back to back, Shane and Ada have taken security in a beat up building, an old radio store, it's quiet but too dark to travel. They might be tired, anyway. It's the silence that's convinced her to suddenly slide the piece of metal towards him. The lack of eye contact right now has eased honesty out of her, when he realizes she's the one who fucked with his car? Yeah, he should turn to put a bullet in her, but his voice is near hostile enough.
"The Hell do ya' want from me?" Neither are going to move, possibly out of stubborn intentions -- but she tsks to his question. Hasn't she answered this enough?
"I asked you for a favor, I wasn't going to survive out there on my own -- so I didn't take no for an answer. I needed your muscle, you weren't going to make it far anyway." It was endless circles with this guy, as if he couldn't be near anyone, something Ada understands -- but fighting a war alone is a good way to get yourself killed.
"That's bullshit, y'know Ada, I couldn't care less where the Hell you go -- but soon as daylight breaks, get the Hell away from me." Now he's got it right, all in his head, she's a toxic bitch. Shane's smarter than he looks. "I ain't got time to babysit... Killin' walkers, fine. But I ain't any use to you, and want me to be blunt. I wanna' be alone. People cause me nothin' but trouble, that includes you, sweetheart."
There's a near snicker that follows his response. The condescending manner in which he's called Ada sweetheart the biggest aspect, her weight shifts, back presses into his, just enough to make sure she has his attention. "That's a cute story, Shane, but whatever you're running from is bound to catch up to you. Humor me, we've got a long night of no sleep ahead -- who messed up your head, hm~?" Near matching his tone, but in a more velvety muse. Gathering information -- now they might get somewhere.
"Too obvious, huh? I'm getting a car tomorrow, and you? You're gonna' get lost -- because women are the root of all my problems, 'cause y'all do whatever ya' want. Thing is you don't know what you want, and I'm tired of tryin' to be the good guy, if I'm alone there won't be a moment of hesitation, goddamn conscience has to loosen up and you sure as Hell ain't aiding that."
That was an interesting remark, three days and she's seen him pull rather gory stunts again and again. They've already killed three non-zombies, not that that mattered. Both had a look about them, the kind of look that people like Shane and Ada had to have, the kind that didn't blink when they took a life because they had to. The look of people who know how to survive.
"Mm rejection is it?~" Head canting to smirk over her shoulder, just enough so that Shane would catch that look. He's kind of confused by it -- which actually leads to a smile. Maybe that's what Ada was aiming for, cut her some slack, she's showing something of a human side. That short chuckle he's left doesn't last long, he shakes his head and soon sort of shifts, leaning his back into the wall -- Ada follows, not losing her balance, which may have been what he was aiming for, and there's an awkward moment of her lying her head in his lap. Ashen optics own up to him, it wasn't anything more than just trying to be comfortable -- but it was kind of nice to see two people smile following a bout of irritation.
"You're somethin' else -- I'll tell ya' that. Let's just leave it at..." He pauses, his eyes have wearied away in this new found position, as he bites his bottom lip, he just doesn't want to talk about the shit that's happened. "I fucked up, hurt people I cared about, so I had to leave.. Had to, so yeah -- might be pretty damn complicated just lettin' someone else follow me around, don't wanna' be responsible for you, Ada. I ain't the kind of guy you want to be around." That may have been the first honest thing he's said to her, she's chose to stare at the ceiling whilst he spoke -- truth is...
"I wouldn't be here if I didn't want to be." She has to be, because she's lacking in ammo, alone in a red-zone and good as dead without someone by her side. Suddenly she pops up and leans against the wall beside him, if he wanted her gone? She couldn't do anything about that. "Truth is, you're not the only one running from something -- someone, and I don't trust my life to many people... I didn't need you to babysit, Shane, I needed someone to have my back. And I'm grateful for that, even if you didn't have a choice. Whatever happened, before you met me? I don't care. I don't have to. But how about we say the favor you provide is not going on a suicide mission, being alone out there will get you killed. There's still a way to redeem yourself." More-so chattering about her own beliefs, and it's a bit unexpected to feel his arm tugging her into him. That was going to be how they'd sleep that night. Just comfort, something not about the killing or surviving, and by morning?
"... You don't gotta' leave, but don't expect much outta' me. M'done making promises to people." Could be interesting, right? Not trying to survive on their own?
