Hey! Currently completing my Associates and Bachelors at the same time (pain in my ass) in Health Sciences- Surgical Technology. Doing clinical as a surg tech, passing/assisting surgeons. I want to get my Masters to be a First Assist but have been having doubts lately about whether or not to just take two yrs after I get my bachelors and do a post bac with all the classes I need (physics, advanced chem, etc) and study for the MCAT and apply to MD/DO school or just stick w FA? Any advice? Thanks.

Wow your schedule sounds intense! That's amazing.

Both First Assist and physician are great career choices. So it all really depends on where you see yourself.

Would being a first assist make you happy, or would you look at the surgeons and wish you had gone for medical school? Can you see yourself doing all those extra years of training, or would you rather work now? Is medical school a new idea, or have you been kicking it around for some time?

You've got time to decide. Talking to first assists and surgeons (assuming the goal of medical school would be a surgeon) might help give you some perspective. Shadowing might help as well.

As long as you are happy there are no wrong decisions, and if you decide to go down one path and decide its not for you, there's nothing wrong with a career change.
