Pairing: Oswald Cobblepot x Reader
-(Y/N) Zsasz, sister of Victor Zsasz. (Y/N) followed her brother, her only living relative, through his dangerous occupation, never able to figure out where she fit, herself. Up until she finds herself in the arms of her brothers most recent employer, that is.-
Groaning, (Y/N) rolled her eyes, exasperatingly turning towards her dear brother.
“Again? You’re always away, off killing someone. Can’t Penguin send someone else for once? You promised to watch an episode of ‘Shameless’ with me.” The girl whined, sticking out her lower lip in a pout.
“(Y/N), as much as I’d love to gawk at Ian tonight, I love my job, and this man is very important, so the job needs to be done right.” Victor replied, grinning.
Huffing, (Y/N) stood up, almost jumping off the bed she had been settled on. “Fine. Then I shall go and speak to him, myself, since you’re so reluctant.”
“(Y/N)- don’t you dare-!” Victor called after her, but she had already slammed the door shut, making her way downstairs. Yes, she lived in the manor, but that was because she had no where else to go, and Penguin needed Victor close just in case.
Stepping onto the lower floor, her bare feet touched the sleek, wooden tile, her long, loosefitting periwinkle colored dress cascading down to her ankles like a waterfall, the back trailing along the ground behind her. Penguin had offered her many... extravagant dresses, but she didn’t feel right taking the expensive clothing. She much preferred the simple, modest designs of the one she was currently wearing anyways.
Stopping in front of a large doorway, she reached out to trace her fingertips down the wooden doors, knowing who would be on the other side. Suddenly, nerves shot through her, and she wondered if it was too late to turn back.
(Y/N) hadn’t really ever spoken to Penguin, only brief greetings and when she accompanied Victor when Penguin had a job. He was... less intimidating than she thought he’d be, to be perfectly frank... with his adorable awkward rambling, his intriguing uncomfortable glances, and the ability to make her undeniably flustered with his generous unnecessary gestures.
No. She needed to tell him that he needed to reconsider sending Victor out. He’d been gone every night this week, and she was sick of it. Find someone else to kill your grudges. Steeling herself, (Y/N) placed the palm of her hands against the door, giving a large push. Without so much as a creak, the doors opened, revealing a large, long room. In the room was a very long table, only leaving room for a comfortable sitting area near the fireplace, which was almost always on. It’s heat filled the room now, and illuminated the man in front of it. Oswald Cobblepot, or, as she called him, Penguin.
“Penguin.” (Y/N) spoke up, making her presence known. She made her way towards him, lifting her chin in defiance.
The short man whirled to face her, mouth dropping open when he realized who she was. Oswald quickly shut his mouth, holding a glass of red wine in his left hand. Plastering on a smile, he addressed her.
“Miss Zsasz! So good to see you. What brings you down to see me?” The man asked, taking a step towards her as she finally stopped a couple of feet away.
“My brother. I’d like him to stay tonight. You’ve taken him away all week, and I’m tired of it.” (Y/N) demanded, lifting a brow. Oswald gave a short chuckle, setting his drink down with a soft ‘clink’ before folding his hands together in front of him.
“It’s endearing how much you care for him.” He murmured, and (Y/N) shot him a questioning look. See? He was a weird little man, complimenting her at this moment. (Y/N) felt her cheeks grow a tad warmer, and turned away as Oswald cleared his throat nervously.
“If you think so, then let him stay with me. Get your man tomorrow.” She urged, looking back at him with pleading eyes. If he didn’t agree now, she wouldn’t see Victor for another month, since he was going to hang with the girls for ‘business reasons’. This would be their last day they get together, and she would do anything to get Penguin to say yes.
“Miss Zsasz... I can’t do that. I’m so sorry, but this is an important-” He started, looking genuinely apologetic, to her surprise.
“Yes, yes, I know, important guy, must be done right. But Mr. Penguin, please. You must have some other hit man?” (Y/N) pestered, biting down on her lower lip.
The man was silent for a moment, surveying her face carefully, before taking in a shaky breath. “Please, Miss Zsasz, how many times have I told you to call me Oswald?” He questioned, deflecting her question.
“I don’t know. How many times have I told you to call me (Y/N)?” She shot back, furrowing her eyebrows. Penguin stammered, blinking rapidly.
“Very well. (Y/N)...” he tested, and (Y/N) couldn’t help but notice the way it rolled off his tongue so effortlessly, the way she felt herself tingle at how her name sounded coming from him. Cursing herself for those thoughts, she blinked to clear her mind.
“Oswald.” She replied with his own name, and hated how it felt so nice to call him that. It felt much more natural than ‘Mr. Penguin’, though she would never admit it. The girl saw his gaze flicker up to meet hers, and down again, sucking in a deep breath.
Finally, Oswald began to make his way towards her, closing the distance they had between them. (Y/N)’s eyes were drawn to the noticeable limp he had, and felt a pang of sympathy and adoration respect for the man. He was actually shorter than her, her being 5’7 and him around 5’5. Her gaze flickered back up to his face as he stopped before her.
“Fine. I will let Victor stay tonight. For you, (Y/N).” He mumbled, and she felt a surge of relief flood through her, along with something else she couldn’t quite place.
“Thank you.” The girl breathed, and met his blue gaze. Time seemed to slow, just slightly as she found herself searching his expression. Jeez, he was so infatuating strange.
“Of course.” Oswald replied hoarsely, before turning away, breaking the trance. Before she even knew what she was saying or doing, she reached out to grab his wrist, causing him to freeze.
“Wait.” She whispered, and (Y/N) saw the man visibly gulp. Cute Odd.
What was she thinking? Wait? Really? Why did she need him to wait? It was like her body acted on its own, not having time to consult with her mind. She got what she wanted, so then why hadn’t she already left? She decided to apologize, and looked down at him, blinking when she realized his face was only inches away from hers. This fact caused her mind to go blank, and she internally panicked. This wasn’t supposed to happen! What was going on?!
“Kiss me.” (Y/N) murmured quickly, causing her mind to go whirling. WhAt?! Whatwhatehatwhatehehehfhhjejcjwhaaaaa?! She did not just say that. Please let this be a dream. Please, please, please....
All was silent for a minute, before Oswald let out a flustered chuckle. Instantly, (Y/N) felt hurt course through her, without even knowing why herself. Ouch.
“You...want me to what?” The man asked, and she shook her head quickly, stepping away.
“Never mind. Forget I said that. I- thank you for-” but (Y/N) was cut off as lips smothered her words, pressing against hers for just a moment before pulling away.
(Y/N) looked down at Oswald, gaping. Did he just...?
His pale cheeks were tinted pink, and she felt her own face grow red.
“I-I’m sorry. I thought that’s what you wanted...but I realize now that you didn’t- I shouldn’t have- my apologies, Miss Zsasz, forgive me. I don’t know what came over-”
The silly rambler. She should give him a taste of his own medicine. Surging forwards, she placed a hand against his cheek, leaning down to press her lips against his. It lasted longer than the previous one, full of unsaid emotions. Once she pulled away, Oswald began to search her expression, surprised beyond belief.
“Oooookay. Well, I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that.” The duo turned simultaneously to face the new voice, and saw Victor retreating from the room, waving a hand over his shoulder.
A minute of silence passed before the situation dragged a giggle from (Y/N)’s mouth, and Oswald turned to face her, his own smile tugging at his lips.
“I believe... we have much to discuss.” (Y/N) murmured softly, and the man took her hand in his own.
“Then we better get right to it, my dear.”
