finished beyond band of brothers. suffice it to say "why was he like that? wtf." here is a collection of my favourite bits:
dick being so pissed he held on to a lieutenant talking about the wrong rifle for 70 years
dick taking every chance to mention how fit and attractive the paratroopers were to him
his fondness for the family he was billeted with in Aldbourne. it's incredibly sweet the way he writes about them (he wrote mrs barnes a letter beginning with "dearest mother")
every single damn time he quotes the letters from floyd talbert, in the framing of them being war buddies. i don't know if floyd could have been more queer in those letters bar outright putting "im in love with you".
dick "um actually ☝️" winters
dick getting his teeth done by a dentist named shifty who then fucked up his teeth. this has to be a bit im on the floor crying. he brings up this dentist like twice more a la "i would NEVER go to this guy EVER AGAIN"
dick's extremely cautious confessions when talking about if nixon had died, what an honour it was to be trusted with his vat 69
dick's "omg. this is JUST like in all quiet on the western front!" moment in chapter 8
dick threatening some poor doctor for not knowing how many men are in a baseball team
DICK QUOTING SIEGFRIED SASSOON, GAY MAN AND POET???
the winnix piss scene
calling himself a "class-a flop"
dick's genuine reverence and respect for the men he served with.
