it’s... pretty telling that almost nobody says a fucking thing about widowmaker’s mere existence and what it represents. she is an abused woman, deeply so. to the point of brainwashing and being forced to end her former, happy life.
and yet, when you think of a character made to be sexy, she inevitably pops up. she was DESIGNED to be sexy, her persona was created to be sexy, and given that this persona is a result of her abuse i’d say it’s a goddamn problem. her suffering is sexualized, her abuse is portrayed as sexy. they literally took a destroyed woman and made her into a sex object. no mourning, no good writing about her trauma. nothing
and do you know why people dont say shit about it? because deep down most people think that amélie becoming widowmaker is AN UPGRADE. or empowering, or whatever. a woman being abused to the point of brainwashing and ending her prior happy life to become a ruthless assassin is “girl power” or some shit because “she kicks ass”
it’s p obvious that you link power, empowerment, etc to violence. widowmaker is not empowered. she is wearing a fucking suit that’s way too uncomfortable and revealing to do her fucking job (which again, it’s a job that was forced upon her, but whatever right), always wearing heels, always with her eyes half closed and her lips pouting slightly. you see a woman not owning herself and being used for violence and youre like “yasss queen” or whatever and honestly? im tired
she would have been better and happier if she had never been abused or brainwashed, if she had never touched a fucking rifle, if her husband was still alive
