Hello and welcome to the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disability Exchange!

This is a disability-positive fic and art exchange created to bring more disabled Obi-Wan content into the wonderful world of fandom. To participate, you will need a registered account on AO3. If you don't have one, send me a message here and I can get you an invitation to register. If you want to participate as a pinch-hitter or beta-reader, please fill out this google form.

A few ground rules:

-If you have questions about the exchange itself, check the AO3 Gift Exchange FAQ first, and if they aren't answered there, send an ask. If you have questions about your specific fic or assignment please use DMs or email [email protected].

-As this is a disability-positive event, ableism will not be tolerated. Please be respectful and sensitive about the subject matter. Ableism will be allowed in the content of the fics provided it is not supported by the narrative and is treated appropriately (i.e. the character may face stigma or internalized ableism, but this is resolved in a positive way without the character being 'cured'). If you have concerns send a message here, and I will do my best to answer them.

-Disabilities include but are not limited to: chronic illness (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, fibromyalgia), physical disability (e.g. mobility issues, blindness, deafness), and mental/intellectual disability (e.g. autism, adhd, schizophrenia). You could even do a Force-related or in-universe disability, although what this would look like is up to you.

-Obi-Wan must be disabled in some way, even if he is not the main character, but other characters are also welcome to have disabilities.

-The minimum word count for fanfics written for the exchange will be 500 words. Fanart must be completed.

-Sign-ups begin on Sunday, April 9th and end on Sunday, April 23rd (4/9/23 - 4/23/23)

-Assignments are sent out Sunday, April 30th (4/30/23)

-Assignments are due Sunday, July 2nd (7/2/23)

Hello! Sign-ups for the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disability Exchange are now open!

The sign-up form will close in two weeks, on Sunday, April 23rd (4/23/23).

A few notes about the sign-up form:

-Please read all of the instructions on the form and don't be afraid to ask any questions you have.

-This form uses a tag set to limit the options for the "Additional tags" category on requests and offers. The tag set can be viewed by clicking on "List # Additional tags" under that category, or by visting the tag set page.

-If the disability tag that you want is not listed, you can nominate a tag by clicking the "Nominate" button at the top of the tag set page. Please allow 24 hours for one of the moderators to approve your tag.

-Tag nominations will close on Sunday, April 16th (4/16/23)

-Keep in mind that the more obscure the disability, the less likely that it will find a match. Don't let this discourage you, but consider giving at least one request option that has a high chance at matching.

-You must submit 3 requests and at least 3 offers, although up to 5 offers are allowed to facilitate matching. (You are only required to create one fic or art piece).

-You may edit your requests and offers at any time up until sign-ups close.

Hello, Exchange participants!

This is a reminder that assignments are due Sunday, July 2nd, 2023 (7/2/23) at midnight (11:59 pm)

You have a little less than a month to complete and upload your works. So, if you haven't already, please begin thinking about your assignment. There will not be a formal check-in, but if you do not think you will be able to complete your assignment, please let me know, preferably before the deadline, and we will discuss your options. If you would like a beta reader for your fic, email me at [email protected]. The pinch hitter and beta reader sign up form is still active.

Moving Forward, Even Still

I took part in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disability Exchange, and had an opportunity to write for a prompt about Obi-Wan & Anakin and dealing with headaches and migraines. You can find the fic here on AO3-- my posts are accessible to registered users, so you must be logged in to AO3 to read. If you need an invitation to get an AO3 account, drop me a note.

Obi-Wan loved his padawan, truly– he just didn’t like him at this particular moment in time.  His annoyed impatience would pass– but not if he died because Anakin’s blast-punk music was so loud that it was stabbing knives into Obi-Wan’s eye sockets.

Thank you to all of the participants who have submitted their works to the exchange collection. I will be (or have been, this is a bit late, sorry) in contact with those who have not yet submitted and the necessary pinch hitters have been assigned.

For pinch hitters and those with extensions, your deadline is Saturday, July 8th (7/8/23) at midnight (11:59 pm) PST. Please submit your assignments by then, so that I have time to review and approve them.

A few things to remember as you start writing/drawing: -The minimum word count for fanfics written for the exchange is 500 words. Fanart must be completed. -You do not have to do all three of your exchange recipient's requests, one will do. It also does not have to be the one that matches your offer, if you find that one of the others inspires you. -Please try to make sure your work fits the given prompt. It does not have to include all of the tags, but should include at least one (or more) of the given disabilities and at least one of the characters (if there are any), although you should base your work on the prompt in the description. -All works must contain Obi-Wan Kenobi, in some capacity, even though the AO3 requests do not contain him as a character. Again, please try to base his role in the fic on the recipient's prompt. -Respect your recipient's Do Not Wants (DNWs). -Explicit content is allowed if the recipient has the "Explicit" or "Any rating" tags in their request. Do NOT write explicit content if the request contains no rating tag, or the "General", "Teen and up", or "Mature" tags. -If you need to default on your assignment (meaning you cannot complete it), please send an email to the exchange gmail above so a pinch-hitter can be assigned in your place. If both you and your gifter default, no pinch-hitter will be assigned and you may not receive a gift. -If you wish to be assigned a beta reader, please send an email or DM so one can be found for you. -Please do not post your work on any sites other than AO3 before the works are revealed on Sunday, July 9th (7/9/23). -This is a disability positive event, which means ableism will not be tolerated.
