Oxlip
Today I found oxlip, wood anemone and a small lungwort. There was a small pathway with dozens of oxlip flowers. Spring is here!
Primula elatior - true oxlip In German this flower is called Schlüsselblume (key flower) due to the similarity of the flowers standing out sideways of the stem with an old key. From this name stems the folklore belief that this plant can banish and lock away evil spirits.
Where the bee sucks, there suck I: In a cowslip's bell I lie
A couple of years ago I met a South Korean girl who told me Korean culture has "birth flowers" - every day of the year has its own flower with a specific meaning. Mine is from the primrose family (Primula), the bright yellow oxlip which is one of the first flowers to bloom after winter. Its meaning is "first love". Ever since, seeing these colourful and happy flowers each spring makes me smile a little brighter. Especially when I see them out on my daily walk during these difficult times (fortunately we are still allowed to go outside for a walk here!). Right now the cowslips and oxlips are in full bloom.
I hope these flowers can brighten your day a little, wherever you are ❤

False Oxlip - Primula vulgaris x veris = P. x polyantha
A naturally occurring hybrid of cowslip and primrose. The flowers look like primroses - but instead of one flower per stem there is an umbel of flowers on each stem. Pretty sure these are cultivated ones though, as there is a group of them growing together.
