a sad song || pascal & hawke
During the nights, Hawke missed his family.
He would miss his father and his boyfriend, both working towards building a family ( that always seemed to exclude him ) and his mother ( carmen sandiego where did you go ), who often flitted away to somewhere in the world that had kitschy internet, where he couldn’t even reach her. He missed his stepfather’s bulgogi and kimchi, he missed his father reading to him his old paperback novels which he did funny voices with. He even missed the both of them at the dinner table, talking like lovesick teenagers, and him just thinking ( someday im going to have this someday ) about the both of them and not uttering a word out of respect.
But what he missed the most, were his mother’s songs. The ethereal tunes that she would sing during ( mom im scared im so ) times of crisis and of fear, just to reassure him. Of course, he rarely heard them anymore, on account of being in Elswood and cut off from the rest of the world. He couldn’t hold a tune to save his life, but the growing longing became too much, and he started to copy the tune the way he remembered it.
The tune carried throughout the dark Commons, a melody that grew large enough that Hawke could see throughout the whole of it. Sure, Hawke was broken, he was too optimistic for his own good, but tonight, he had ( imissyousomuchplease ) this to comfort him, though it seemed that it wasn’t doing that much good. He would’ve noticed the figure that was in his range, had he not been focused on his own thoughts----something that only a sad song could do to him.
