There’s something deeply human in India’s position at COP30 — a country of 1.4 billion saying, “We’ll do our bit, but the historical polluters need to pay their share.” It isn’t finger-pointing; it’s arithmetic. And for Australians, it lands close: our closest neighbours are among the most climate-vulnerable on earth. When Tuvalu or Timor-Leste plead for adaptation funds, they’re not asking for charity — they’re asking for fairness. Makes you wonder how comfortably we can keep calling ourselves the “generous mate in the region if the chequebook stays shut.
