Hack to Smooth out Goopy Paint Strokes
So maybe you're a hackjob faceup painter like me, and you forgot to thin your paints before going to town on a doll's face. You end up with crazy bad lumps, aw dang. Better wipe and start over, right? WRONG!
Let me introduce you to the magic of model paint matt varnish:
before
after (and then i painted over the varnish, but you see what I mean right?? the new layer is SMOOTH. also I did remember to thin my paints with flow improver for this layer XD)
Specifically I used Green Stuff World's Matt Varnish to smooth out the sclera, but every brand of model paint's matt varnish that i've tried so far has given me similar results.
I'm not a chemist so I'm not 100% sure what's going on, whether it's filling in the gaps or melting down the paint a bit or a little of both, but it works a charm.
One more hack before I run off: See that blue shadow in the eye? That's not paint, that's watercolor pencil over white paint. You're welcome.
