LIKE maybe it’s. just me
but my big fear of backrooms and garages and stuff isn’t the fact that OH MY GOD THERE ARE MONSTERS IN HERE but
it’s the fact that you’re sure you heard something. it’s likely just your imagination, that flickering light is only because someone didn’t pay the bills, that noise you heard is the wind. but... what if there isn’t? what if that shadow (that you’re SURE it’s yours, it MUST be yours--) is someone else’s? what if you stop walking for a second and you still hear the faint sound of steps behind you?
like ofc irl a monster chasing you would be much more terrifying than the vague idea that a monster MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be there ready to pounce, but one great thing in horror is the constant tension? the build-up is often much more terrifying and memorable than the scare itself.
