Ashes to ashes, dust to dust || Mary & Caradoc
Date: September 20th, 1978 Time: 12:45 pm Location: Graveyard, Godric's Hollow
His leather shoes made almost no sound on the dry grass as he walked past the gravestones. He had passed them so many times already during the past year, and yet he had never really paid attention to the carved marble figures or heavy squares that lined up to tell their visitors something about the person that had been buried here. And yet when Caradoc stepped up to that one particular grave and his eyes fell onto the small statue of an angel, long haired and wrapped into a tunic, wings half wrapped around arms and body, it was only a small connection that he made to the person that rested underneath his feet.
The long hair, the soft features, that was what reminded Caradoc of her, but certainly not the angel’s sad expression. He had never seen that on Amy’s face, too happy had she been, too cheerful to ever cry a single tear. As brave as the true Gryffindor that she had been. He knelt down in front of the figure and dropped the white rose he had brought, placing it gently on top of her grave before his long fingers followed the lines that were carved deep into the marble socket.
December 12th, 1958 - September 20th, 1977
Too young. Way too young for anyone to be ripped from this world. Especially under circumstances like that. There wasn’t a day when Caradoc didn’t think about Amy, too strong had their bond been, too much of a presence had she been in his life, even despite the age difference. While one of them had attended Hogwarts, the other had written letters, a constant connection even over the distance. To suddenly have that void in his life, the missing presence of one of the people that were most dear to him had been a shock from which he had yet to recover. There wasn’t a single day in which Caradoc didn’t miss his sister.
“Mum and Dad send their greetings,” he smiled sadly, still touching the cold stone with the tips of his fingers. “They miss you, every day, you know? Just like me.” With a sigh, he straightened. The rational part of his brain told him that talking to a gravestone was a stupid thing to do that didn’t bear any meaning than exactly that: that one was talking to a stone. Yet, it was a sort of consolation, a way of dealing with the loss of his beloved sister, what almost felt like he was actually talking to her again. Except that she would never reply again. A year had passed since she had been killed, a whole year, and yet no one had ever come even close to finding out who had been behind her murder. But one day, he was sure, he would try to find whoever was responsible for this. Placing his hand on the angel’s head, he took another deep breath. “I miss you, sunshine.”
Smile the sorrow away || Remus & Mary
It was the first morning after the great feast that Remus had woken up early with excitement, his whole body tingling with the rush of finally being back at Hogwarts, of being with his friends again. He had missed the times so much during the holidays that the last thing he could think about now was sleep.
It was still another week until the next full moon, and Remus’ bones didn’t start aching yet, and yet he couldn’t simply go back to sleep, he decided. He was wide awake, but a glance between the curtains of his four poster bed and around the room confirmed what he had already guessed from the noises he had been hearing. His friends all seemed fast asleep, still exhausted from yesterday’s feast and amounts of food. He slipped silently out of bed, his toes curling together as they touched the cold stone ground and he hurried to the small closet next to his bed that contained his few belongings. He had been - as every year - the first and only one so far to unpack his trunk.
It was still time till classes would start, but he already collected his school uniform and sneaked into the bathroom to wash, brush his teeth and change. He disposed his pyjamas (neatly folded) back onto his bed, silently pulled the curtains aside and grabbed his books. He cast one last look to the other three beds in the dorm, but it seemed like none of them would wake up so soon.
Still smiling happily, he wrapped his arms tightly around his books and let them sleep peacefully, closing the door behind him as he made his way into the Gryffindor common room to have a look at his new schedule and maybe read a few pages before anyone else was awake.
When he took the last step though and entered the round room in which the fire was always lit, filling the room with worms and a golden light, he saw that he wasn’t the only one up this early.
