All I Have To Do Is Dream || Amelia & Evan || September 18th, 1979
Logically, splitting up with Remus had made sense. It was easier to move a smaller group of people quickly, and dividing the muggles they’d stumbled upon in half created less of a target for the Death Eaters. But the logical soundness of the plan didn’t make it any easier. Nor any more comfortable. There may not be any dementors right on top of them, but they were definitely lingering nearby. Just in case Amelia couldn’t already tell, due to the heavy desolation that had settled in her stomach, the thick mist was as good a sign as any, never mind the fact that the muggles she was trying to order around as gently as possible were all crying in varying levels of hysteria.
And, really, the Death Eaters had had to bring dementors along. Ever since she’d apparated in, Amelia hadn’t been sure where her genuine reaction of horror ended and the magical creature induced horror began. It’d been easier with Remus nearby. A familiar face in among the carnage and yelling was always grounding, but had proved even more so in this particular village. Dementors. Amelia hated them.
She was juggling watching the muggles, looking for shelter, and keeping an eye out for attackers, human or not, and it was wearing on her. It didn’t help that it hadn’t even been much more than a fortnight since the last attack. The bruise across her face had yellowed and become far smaller, but it was still there, and her leg, though for the most part healed, still felt sore and irritatingly wrong.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5. She counted heads again. Three women, all older than her, a teenaged boy, and a man probably around her age. She didn’t let herself be reminded of Edgar. “Alright, c’mon, let’s see if we can go a bit quicker.” Amelia’d taken on one of her arsenal of Hit Witch voices, this time encouraging but firm. They needed to get out of the open. Somewhere defensible, at the very least, and ideally not one of the cottages- they all seemed far too flammable. She moved up to the front of their little group from where she’d been at their side, wand raised out into the road with the muggles in between her and a wall. Peaking around a corner, she nodded, “Okay, this way, that’s it.” After leading the way around, she dropped back to her spot beside them, flashing a grim smile at the boy when she caught him watching.
