to hell and back | Abigail&Sally
Pale hands pulled the brunette's braid to the side of her face, tugging at the end gently. She sucked her chapped lower lip between her teeth, worrying the flesh further. She shifted in her seat, unable to keep still. She was riddled with nervous habits she never used to have, ones she hardly even noticed now. It wasn't difficult to see that she didn't really want to be here.
Abigail Hobbs had been a bit preoccupied lately. Dr. Bloom was pushing therapy more and more, while Hannibal was becoming an ever-increasing part of her life. Very little that happened to the girl made sense anymore, so when Will had mentioned a lecture he was going to be giving outside of his usual lessons, Abigail had jumped on the subject. She'd asked if she could come, watch him work. A chance to leave the hospital and interact with people closer to her age, who weren't totally traumatized. Will could hardly refuse her big blue eyes.
What the young woman hadn't taken into account was the content of Will's lecture. Like everything the man taught, this particular lecture involved a heavy element of the criminally insane and what they did to their victims, as well as a study on victim mentality. Perfect. As if she hadn't had enough of psychology as of late.
Adjusting the soft scarf around her neck, Abigail's eyes swept the students around her, considering. She could be one of them right now, She could have gone to college somewhere. She still could. She'd just have to find somewhere that hadn't been tainted by her father's presence. Somewhere the Minnesota Shrike hadn't gotten to.
While caught in her own musings, Abigail's eyes stopped roaming. She began to stare, as one often does while deep in thought. Only, when she came back to herself, she didn't stop staring. The girl at whom her gaze had been directed was watching the lecture intently, and for some reason Abigail recognized her. But then, maybe 'recognized' wasn't the right word. There was certainly something familiar about the young woman's person, maybe the way she held herself, or her very features. Abigail both knew she had never before seen the girl, and yet something about her felt familiar.
