Hey, small bit of advice for any overweight people considering having children:
Try not to talk badly about yout own weight in front of them. Especially if they are also overweight.
Because, even if you tell them how beautiful/handsome they are and how they don't need to change, talking negatively about your own weight still sends the message that being overweight is bad. And similarly, them being overweight must also be bad.
My mom can tell me I look beautiful all she wants, but if she immediately adds something after about how she looks bad due to her weight, it makes me feel weird and uncomfortable. Its even worse because we are the only "heavy" ones in our immediate family.
And definitely do not imply to your children that it is their job to motivate you to lose the weight. Not only will it make them uncomfortable and likely not willing to do it, but it will also imply to them that you think they also should lose weight and that being overweight is bad. And definitely don't imply this to just your overweight children.
Whenever my mom gets a weight loss kick, she always mentions it to me and how I should try to encourage and remind her to do it. She does not say the same to my sister, who eats like a wild animal and barely leaves her room, or my brother, who was a gymnast and coach for many years. And whenever my brother does try to encourage her, she turns him down and complains it.
I love my mom and I don't have any major hang ups about my weight or any thing, but the way she treats her own weight and exercise has definitely made me feel weird about mine.
Don't talk negatively about your weight in front of your children.
