I keep seeing discourse about “bi lesbians” on Twitter (ftr I’ve never seen anyone actually use that id… just people being mad about it) and yeah every single one of them sounds like this. Like imagine being so mad about what someone personally feels describes their sexuality best

there is a general fetishisation of suffering where people seem to think “i have Earned my orientation/gender with my pain, how dare others claim it” and the flawed reasoning there is clear, and some ppl are obviously just bigoted against other groups and find the idea of sharing space and experiences with them obscene, but i think it’s not a conscious thing ppl consider? they have an immediate reaction of “i do not like this new thing” and then just ride it out bc it’s more comfortable than going “well hang on, maybe the world is just more complicated than i thought, maybe i have been cruel to these ppl”

so then you get a bunch of “neutral” posts about “remember this pride season some ppl do not like X model or X identity, don’t force it on them” and they sound very reasonable until you realise that really what they mean by “force it on them” in any kind of practical terms is “do not talk about it in a positive light, or ideally at all, without adding a huge disclaimer about Me and My feelings about the thing being Bad” and uh. suddenly that nice, polite, calm ~middle-ground~ style post reveals some inherent predjudices
