Voice of an... Angel?
Thanks for this idea @evilnaveen! This was so fun to write! (Abel x Reader who sucks at karaoke)
CW: None
It's not that you didn't like hanging out with St. Peter. It was just frustrating, the way he always had to insist that your friend group should visit the karaoke bar. Because, truth be told, you weren't all that great at singing.
So every time that the group agreed, you'd make up some last-minute excuse as to why you couldn't attend. But by now, even Abel was pushing the karaoke idea.
"C'mon, babe, I promise you'll have fuuun!" he beamed at you, the golden irises of his huge puppy-eyes twinkling dramatically. "Pleaseeee?"
You'd reluctantly agreed (only because your boyfriend's shameless begging and gap-toothed smile were physically impossible to reject). His gold wings had fluttered excitedly at your agreement, like a golden retriever wagging its tail.

That evening, the group rented a private room in the bar, where they could all scream off-key into the microphone, with no strangers there to judge.
Except none of them were off-key... Every single one of them had the voice of- Well, an angel.
Abel was one of the first to get up and sing, and he was incredible- but that was expected. Yet, as more and more people had their turn, you began to realize that this was almost a talent show, with each act trying to top the last. Until finally, only you remained...
Emily took a little bow as her song ended, cheers erupting from the audience. Then she spun to you with a smile. "Your turn, y/n!" she said, offering you the microphone.
You swallowed. "Oh, uh, well- Do I have to?"
Abel placed his hand on your shoulder and began to open his mouth as if to say, "No, of course you don't;" but another, much more dominating voice cut him off completely.
All Lute did at first was snicker. "No," she said, hunched over on her seat like some kind of bird of prey sizing up a snack. "But then again, everybody else here went up and did it, so you'll absolutely look like a little bitch if you don't."
Abel made a huffing sound. "Y'know, you're spending so much time with my dad, I'm starting to think you're his echo, Lute," he hissed. Usually, when it came to Lute's insults, Abel backed down easily. But not when it came to you. When it came to you, he was at his most protective.
Lute's white-haired head snapped in his direction. "Shut your trap, Abomination."
Abel took his hand off your shoulder, as if readying to start a fight, so you took that as your cue to get up. "That's alright! I'll go. Thanks, Emily," you said, taking the mic from her and starting for the front of the room.
The next song queued was Ain't No Mountain High Enough. You knew the song, but if you could sing it was a different question with a different answer.
"Listen, baby..." You kept your eyes glued to the screen as you read the lyrics that appeared. "Ain't no mountain high, ain't no valley low..."
Behind you, you could hear multiple stifled snickers. But the only thing more embarrassing than singing the entirety of this song, would be to let yourself get laughed off the stage. So, you did your best to drown out the noise and keep singing.
You figured the laughs would fade, since everyone was in the midst of exchanging margaritas and martinis, but even through the group's drunken stupor, it was obvious that their laughter was aimed at you. Not with you. At you, and your obviously off-key shrieks and tone-deaf voice.
While it didn't become an outright cackle, the laughter did grow from whispered jeers to a continuous murmur of mockery. But then, right when you started to contemplate throwing down your mic and sitting back down in defeat, a familiar gloved hand slid into yours- Right on the lyric where Marvin Gaye's lyrics overlap with Tammi Terrell's.
Abel tugged your microphone away from your mouth and towards his own and sang, "If you're ever in trouble, I'll be there on the double..."
You let the mic go as he took your hand, and he spun you around in a little circle. "Just send for me, oh, baby!"
The mortified look on your face evaporated like it had never been there in the first place. All because your boyfriend was the literal embodiment of sunshine and rainbows.
You both finished the song together: "Ain't no mountain high enough, to keep me from gettin' to you, baby!"
A forced few claps were heard from the audience, but you didn't care. Instead, you grabbed your boyfriend by the collar of his robe and pulled him close, swiftly pressing your mouth to his. Abel made nothing more than a surprised little "Mph!" before he dropped the mic to the floor, and his eyelids fluttered shut.
The few claps quickly turned to groans. "Oh, boooo!" Peter shouted. "Get a room, you two!"
But you took your sweet time. Eventually, your lips finally parted from Abel's, and when they did, you could see that his round little face was flushed with a tinge of gold.
"Thanks for savin' me," you said, low enough so that only he could hear. "My knight in shining armor."
You brushed his angelic gold curls, swooping them behind his ear so you could get a better look at that blush in his cheeks. He had a lost, dreamy look in his eyes, like he wanted you to kiss him all over again. "Yeah. 'Course, babe. 'Cause if you're ever in trouble..." he sing-songed the last bit, "I'll be there on the double."
You giggled and pecked his lips. "Dork."
