God save the Kouign ! #7
Penmarc'h 12-14/06/2026
Hello! So I'm taking a few days of vacation in Brittany and today I went to Penmarc'h to see the Phare d'Eckmühl.
It was a project that had been decided for a while when Davout's daughter made an unexpected donation, provided the lighthouse would be dedicated to the memory of her father. As you can see, the wish was respected.
It was constructed and first lit in 1897. It's still active and one of the tallest lighthouses in the world. I climbed the 307 steps to the top and it's worth it.
I think Davout would appreciate having that sort of legacy: practical and life-saving.
