Putting the “P” in xxxP (or J in xxxJ)
Hey everyone
So as soon as I started to find out about functions I immediately had a question. You see I saw that there was Fi/Fe, Ti/Te, Ni/Ne, Si/Se but I wondered to myself “where exactly does the P/J get involved as it has “no function”.
Early on I was able to see how P made a person’s higher F/T introverted and J made them extroverted, but that was about it. And I still didn’t know what they really meant.
However recently I stumbled across a post talking about the effect of secondary functions on dominate ones. It was the first time I saw F/T be referred to as judging functions and N/S referred to as perceiving ones. Naturally my first thought was “so P means you dominate function is a perceiving one and J means that it is a judging one.” Wrong. I realized this immediately when I examined the fact that as and INFP, my dominate function (Fi) was a judging one and not a perceiving one. So then what did it mean? Nothing? I had to think about this more. I went back to my connection of P to introverted functions and J to extroverted ones and I made a personal breakthrough. That last letter denotes whether your highest extroverted function is perceiving or judging. It makes sense because the highest extroverted function is the one that people will be able to more readily notice in someone. I’ve noticed before that when typing people there seems to always be one function that jumps out at me. Looking back at these I been able to confirm for the most part that that is indeed their highest extroverted function.
Ex INFP (Fi Ne Si Te) P correlates to Ne
ISTP (Ti Se Ni Fe) P correlates to Se
INFJ (Ni Fe Ti Se) J correlates to Fe
ESTJ (Te Si Ne Fi) J correlates to Te
so on and so forth
