Bagdad Cafe (1987). A lonely German woman ends up in the most desolate motel on Earth and decides to make it brighter.

This is way more delightful than it has any right to be! A lesbian-coded, desert-based Mary Poppins with all the grit and whimsy that implies. There's such a cool visual style here, and the way the place slowly warms to the presence of its visitor is really deeply felt. Just an utterly charming little film. 8/10.
