Update on the whole pride-flags-for-us fiasco

Still pretty sick and tired but looks like the anons I got about 4chan were just trolls trying to scare me into deleting, which is rude, but hey, at least it motivated me to up my security and change my passwords. I try to avoid talking about discoursey stuff here but I think this is important so fair warning ahead if you don’t want to see that.

So it looks like what happened is that there was an internal coup of some sorts. Mod Ita and Celes succesfully managed to kick Mod Dave off. He was the main mod responsible for the downhill turn PFFU took with its “pro LGBT anti MOGAI” stuff as well as a lot of aphobia and other misinformation. 

From Celes’s blog: “Mod Ita joined in a plan to take it down due to the offensive MOGAI content. They brought me on board. Originally I was all for this plan, so I accept some responsibility. Then they brought a few new people on in order to aid in deleting everything and trying to kick Mod Dave off.” [Link]

I don’t really know the full intentions of Ita and Celes (or if Ita is even on the new mod team), but the blog is back up, and I’m not sure which way theyre trying to steer the blog but judging by the above and the posts on the (very eye-straining) redone blog, I worry that they might continue with the “LGBT not MOGAI” theme. I don’t want to write too much more on the subject since it’s mostly just speculation right now and I want to wait for them to post their explanation page before jumping to any conclusions.

I had been communicating with Ita regarding pride stuff for a few months before this but haven’t talked to them for a few weeks before this all happened. They’ve been very helpful with finding flags/terms I’ve missed and seemed very pro-MOGAI and they’ve wanted to be a mod on my blog for a long time as well but I didn’t want to let them due to some ....problematic opinions they have on some subjects. They’ve since disappeared since this all happened.

(This is also why I’m hesitant on adding new mods even though I need help because I don’t want something like this to happen to this blog)

I think this is about all I can say right now (and all I have the mental spoons for since its 1am and im exhausted) I’ll see if I can get to some other asks regarding flags but no promises for tonight or tomorrow.

But I feel like it’s an important post regarding PFFU, the changes they’re making, the future of this blog, and I also want to clarify a few things:

Is that why @pride-color-schemes opened up? I was wondering what happened there, but honestly I just try to avoid getting too far into the hellscape that is “mogai is toxic” discourse. Like, I have to pick my battles, and I pick “the ones that actually come to me because there’s already so many, why would I ever look for more.”

Anyway, I’m not going to say I’m surprised about this. Things like mogai-archive and pride-flags-for-us get an enormous, disproportionate amount of hatred, and very little in the way of vocal support because, well, the communities they are fighting for are very small.

After a few years of being told at a rate of 97% that you’re filthy, toxic, rotting waste, you start to wonder if people are right.

They aren’t right, of course, but there’s no way to know that when it’s all you ever hear.

These things happen.

I am very sorry to see another positive resource blog get nuked, but I am very much not surprised.

[Hermy here]: Just clarifying, I originally made my DA pride-flags back when PFFU was still a great blog because I wanted to help out and keep all the flags in one place. (I actually asked several times if they’d like to add me as a mod but always got an “I’ll ask the other mods about it”). I made mogai-flags later (honestly I don’t remember if PFFU was still good or going downhill at the time I made it), but then dumped it for this since I made an entirely different account for it instead of a sideblog and then realized I couldn’t add mods to it. 

But yeah, this is another reason why I’m going to be super careful in adding new mods, so I’ll add people who already know a lot and have strong opinions already on discoursey stuff so we don’t fall for their shit and end up going down the same path if this blog gets super popular. The problem with tumblr (well, one of the maaaaany problems) is that there’s no way to kick admins so if even one mod “goes rogue” or something, they can really mess things up. 

As blah as they are now I do have some sympathy for them for all the shit they have to deal with on a daily basis and hope that one day they’ll turn back around or at least add some mods that can deal with all the negativity that’s thrown at them.

Some more pffu updates and whatever

Gonna keep these under the cut in case people don’t want to see it, but I still should be talking about it to keep people updated and whatnot.

So it looks like my fears were realized and pffu has become even more “pro LGBT anti MOGAI” than it was with Dave as a mod. It makes me really sad because I knew Ita talked about hoping to fix it one day so it’d be pro-MOGAI again but then the complete opposite happened. There’s also no update on what happened to them either. 

It’s really frustrating since they still have so many followers who are now seeing their identities get erased by a blog that used to support them as well as harming new people who are looking for terms to describe themselves.

Ohh my gosh. 1) Thanks for the update! Really, I can't thank you enough. 2) I thought Dave had more power than anyone else there, so I was like "how the fuck did Dave get kicked", but it seems like he willingly backed off. Cool. 3) There are a lot of posts on the blog, so I can't reach the bottom. I'm curious to see if earlier posts were deleted. Gonna have to check that out later.

Yeah all earlier posts were deleted so it’s only posts from the new mods and such.

All I know of pride-flags-for-us is that Mod Ita and Mod Celes admitted to being trolls who joined the blog in order to get it eventually deleted. Mainly they targeted the blog because Dave wanted to convert the blog to pro-LGBT instead of pro-MOGAI (even though he was still very pro-MOGAI and yet also aphobic, he just tried to asskiss both sides, fricking hypocrite). So I think you should be safe since you're still very much pro-MOGAI!

Yeah now that I know it wasn’t actual hacking and just them taking advantage of tumblr’s terrible mod system I’m not worried anymore. (Well I do worry about some infiltration like that, but not about hackers coming for me like that first anon said)

I'm surprised that lgbtrainbowdolls person could mistake your dA for belonging to pride-flags-for-us. Especially since, yknow, PFFU decided to become anti-mogai pro-LGBT, but then they decided to backtrack and try to please both sides. Which makes them more pathetic imho, lmao. At least you're still willing to get flags and correct info out there. Me and plenty other people appreciate all your hard work!!

That whole blog (lgbtrainbowdolls, not pffu) is really questionable, I don’t know if they’re outright trolling but they post a LOT of misinformation RE: putting wrong names/definitions on flags. They are not a blog you should go to for information. They also put “controversial” on a lot of terms which is really skeevy imo. 

But yeah, if you’re going to try to be educational about stuff at least try to get the right info out and be open to corrections.

Just a clarification

I don’t have the spoons to make a big post about all the pride-flags-for-us shenanigans still, but I’ll just say I’m going to be reblogging any asks they’ve incorrectly/incompletely answered with corrections. I won’t be getting into any arguments or anything like that if anyone’s worried about having a bunch of “discourse” or whatever on this blog. And that goes for general things too, I’ll keep the educating to this blog and the other stuff to my main blog.

I’ll also be tagging all the posts related to them as #pffu, so you can blacklist it if you want.

Is it okay to ask for a summary of what's going on with "that other blog" (I'm afraid to actually say their name in case this ask ends up getting auto tagged to the blog and they come after you or something). I really don't even want to risk going to their blog in case of seeing something super triggering, or at least anti-nonbinary or anti-MOGAI, I'm not exactly in a good state right now to deal with that sort of negativity directly. :(

Did you see what happened to pride flags for us? I honestly don't even feel safe there anymore, especially what they just said about ace and aro people. You're not gonna stop being a MOGAI blog are you? :/

Yikes, I got busy around the time all that started happening but I’m back now and just mostly caught up on it all. I definitely don’t agree with them on changing from a MOGAI blog to a LGBT one or the comments on a-spec people. I’m pretty disappointed they took a turn in that direction.

I might make a post later on where I stand on certain issues/things, but I promise I’ll always keep this as a MOGAI inclusive blog! There will be lines I’ll draw for some things, but they’ll always be loosely drawn and I’d much rather be “too inclusive” and accidentally add a troll post (although I’ll always delete obvious trolls) or something that doesn’t really fit in, than too exclusive and leave out people who need the community and a term/design to describe them/how they feel. I’ll also always be open to discussion if anyone feels I’ve excluded a design that I shouldn’t have. 

I’ll keep this post short but basically, don’t worry, this will always be a MOGAI friendly blog and I will be very careful when adding new mods and make sure that they are also MOGAI friendly!
