Wordcount - June 2018

We've come full circle and have now done a year of this! Crazy!

June looked like this:

There was a lot of posting in June because I did fedij (masterlist here) (ao3 series here)

But the writing breaks down like this:

Phew! Lots of projects.

Which leaves out year like this:

Higher than we were this time last year despite fedij being less words.

And July is shaping up to be a little busy too as I work on 4 diff writing projects. Though hopefully 2 of those will be finished soon.

Wordcount - April 2018

Wow, if I thought March was unproductive, what happened to April huh? 

I mean posting wise it wasn’t, but wordcount wise? yeah. 

Didn’t even break 10k. The days I did write I generally wrote over 1k (minus a couple of days) but I didn’t write as many days as I should have. 

Still, here is how it breaks down:

Mostly things you’ve seen but some bits that I’m working on for another time :)

Here are the things I posted: 

- Parallel Lines (a Prologue) for the @phandomficfests Spring/New Beginnings Fic Fest

- Parallel Lines (Chapters 1 2 and 3)

- Six Centimetres a Second my easter gift for the @easterphandomgifts

So that was it. You can see I’m also working on something temporarily called Hospital (because it doesn’t have an actual title yet) you might see this around... um... June.

That’s it for this month, I have no other comments to make except that I’m really enjoying parallel lines even though I have no idea where it’s going other than it being a really slow burn. Enjoy!

Wordcount - January 2018

I’m late with this because I was waiting until I was back on my desktop computer because I hate fiddling about with screenshotting and everything on my laptop. 

Here is January: 

You can see that now I’m colour coding the word count column depending on how many words are done. It’s conditionally formatted to turn a colour between red and green depending on the highest and lowest amounts. 

11.6k for the month was a pretty good start. Alot of it was the original novel which was supposed to be the main focus. Although you can see how distracted I got with other things.

You’ll see I also started something with the code name ‘beacons’ and ‘Carry me’ which are v exciting things I’m v excited about but won’t be up for a while so I’m not going to bother mentioning them. At least not until Ships is finished. 

Mostly WIPs again, but I posted quite a bit:

Not fic - I’ve linked to one of them, but the wordcount is for various little things I posted to Tumblr that I wrote while a bit tipsy and I’m not even sure I tagged them but you could always search not fic on my blog and see what happens.

This all means my year is looking like this so far:

Posting late always means you get a sneak peak of next month. As you can see Feb is more productive that January. Probably because I’m writing things I like. 

Also Vday fic for the upcoming fic fest. So... yeah.

Wordcount - November 2017

November is special. It plays host to NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) where writers try to write 50,000 words in the month of November. 

I never make it, but I always try. 

That being said (I’ve been watching a lot of buzzfeed unsolved) here is my wordcount for November, which is done a little differently than usual but I think I’m going to stick with the format. 

As you can see, Most of this month was WIP working but I did post a couple of things! (about 1 a week actually)

- Ships that pass in the night (chapter 15) - Of Dogs and Disobedience  (it was discipline, but they don’t do much disciplining in the fic lol) - Love potion, or, Just one more drink (you’ll regret it in the morning)  - Where we were when the raid came

I’m totally hyped for the Actor/Student fic which is at nearly 10k already, and about my queueing fic which only needs a little more (mysterious, but there we go) As always there is Stars and Tendrils which has 3 chapters finished now. I’m trying to do a chapter a month with 5 chapters left. But I’m not posting it until it’s finished. 

Aaaand yes, Ships 16 has a bit, but it needs more. 

Anyway, 20.5k for November isn’t anywhere near 50k, but it’s pretty decent when you look at my other months.

Which means our year is looking like this: 

June haunts me. But I know I’ll never beat it. 

I’d love to close out the year on 250k but I think asking 30k of December is waaaay too must. Maybe 10k? Idk. Lets not set goals because I will cry.

Daily/Monthly/Yearly Wordcount Tracker

For all of your writers out there who find validation in the cold hard statistics of your own wordcount, do I have the tool for you! 

I’ve been using this wordcount tracker for the last year (you can find my monthly posts on it here) and I’ve found it really useful for tracking how much I’m writing. 

Not only that, I use to to track where I am against my daily/monthly/annual writing goals in both percentages and the number of words written.

I colour code my days as to how much I’ve written, and I track how much I work on particular projects each month. 

As I have found this useful, I thought some of you might find it useful too so I’ve made a blank one available to download at the following link:

The document has step-by-step instructions on how to set up the tracker with your own goals, as well as a guide to what each of the values mean in the final year-end statistics.

Remember: your worth as a writer is not wrapped up solely in how much you write. You should write simply for the enjoyment of writing. This is just a tool you can use to be retrospective, to set goals, and to look back at your day/month/year and say ‘yeah... I did that.’
