Character Study #5 "How to be like Jones"
His name was Phoenix Jones, mixed martial artist from Seattle Washington. I was in 9th grade when I was board after doin homework in the computer lab so... I went down a rabbit whole of wanna be cosplay super heroes on youtube. And I found em, a vid of Phoenix dressed in black and yellow body armor walking towards a group of thugs (thugs had knives on em I think... dont quote me find the video). I could'nt remember if I took that dude seriously or not but I was 16 yrs old and was super into the idea of being a vigilante. So when I saw this guy do it I thought to my self, hey I could do that shit! So I dashed home with an idea of designing my own suit to take on the bad guys. Im a fan of kung fu so you know I had to add some kind of ironfist swag to the suit (hence the dragon symbol on the drawing) also wanted to add the stripes going down the suit cause it reminded me of classic comic book iron fist at the time, pretty sure the suit had stripes on it. Youtubed "how to sew your super hero suit forreal" and I thought it to be super complicated, so I planed to make the base of the suit spiderman inspired. Use to see people make the spidey suit online all the the time like alot, so figured it would'nt be to hard to learn even though I knew nothing about sewing. Today I've got no clue what happend to Phoenix Jones, as soon as I found this drawing again I searched him up and I couldnt find anything. Me living in America with my 20 yr old mind the first thing that came to mind was " he's a black man in America tryna do the right thing... he might be dead". Ooooor maybe he decided to hang the cowl or maybe he's still out there, still being a hero for his community.
