March 10, 2022 - Lesser Masked Weaver (Ploceus intermedius)

These weavers are found in woodlands, savannas, scrublands, and other habitats, usually near water, in eastern and southern Africa. The mostly eat insects, such as caterpillars, termites, and grasshoppers, and also feed on nectar, seeds, and berries. Nesting in colonies, males generally breed with two or three females and weave round nests from grass and palm leaves with entrance tunnels on the bottom. Females line the nests and incubate the eggs alone, though males assist with feeding the chicks.
