ok ok I continued the pillars kick by making a custom portrait for Aloth because I. Do not. Like his deadfire portrait. it is simply Too Chiseled.

everyone that tells you to paint in the values first and layer transparent colors on second is absolutely, 100% correct. That's what the old masters used to do to save paint, allegedly, but the practice also allowed them to block in the light, details, and everything else without tearing their hair out trying to keep the colors remotely stable. You have to do a bit of work on top of the color glaze, of course. And at that point you can choose to keep the messy-underpainting look or not! Up to you. But it's faster, easier to edit as you go, AND it produces a better result (depending on what look you want).

Honestly I thought I would hate it because painting the colors is my favorite part of the process, but I had a blast. I felt so free lol
