World Building Prompt #410
A Strange World
A loud blaring sound, that first grew in frequency then lessened as the thing passed by and then sped away as quickly as it had come, filled his ears. Ardri coughed as sour polluted air filled his lungs.
It was dusk and yet this place was still bustling with energy and the deep thrum of some hidden unsettling tension from those few who passed by. Vehicles of metal and rubber moved down a river of hardened black, carrying passengers and drivers to where they desired. Lights flashed on signs and in windows above as Ardri stepped to the flat grey stone path that edged the black river to look up at the enormous glistening glass towers. He could almost sense the skeletons of steel that lay inside them, though he could not deny that they had a strange beauty about them. Few passing by even spared him a glance, though his garb made from spidersilk and velvet made into leaves was far stranger than most things these folk wore. Despite this he found himself more fascinated by them than the interest they showed towards him. Each and every one who walked by, talking to little rectangular boxes that they held to the sides of their heads, towing children or pets along with them, traveling in packs like wolves as they made their way on to destinations unknown. He glanced behind him at the alleyway from which he had just stepped. There was a pool of new water that had arrived with him from the Flowered Oceans, yet there was no sign that anything of Faerie had ever been there.
I hated the polluted air in the city until I shared them with Fifth Harmony. I'm like -bish, you are breathing the same air as the girls. Be grateful. *inhales polluted air deeply and smiled*

That's because it is surrounded by polluting industries, including one of the largest sewage plants in the country and a trash incinerator that burns thousands of tons of trash every week. Residents have been demanding cleaner air for more than 50 years. We met residents and activists who told us how the pollution has affected their lives and health, and how they're fighting back.
