Ve, agarra la cola al cometa, engendra en raíz de mandrágora, dime dónde van los antaños o quién la zanca hendió al demonio, enséñame a sufrir sirenas o el arte de esquivar envidias,         y dime         qué viento hace medrar un juicio honesto.

O si naciste visionario y lo inescrutable penetras, cabalga a miles las jornadas, ciñendo las nieves del tiempo, y relátame a tu regreso las portentosas maravillas,         jurando         no hallarse mujer fiel y hermosa en el mundo.

O si la hallaras, dame cuenta, pues fuera gentil romería; mas mejor calla, que esa puerta, aún vecina, yo no pasara, que si entonces leal la hallaste y al escribir tú resistiera,         de cierto         más de uno burlaría antes que llegara.
