Since it was so long ago most people don’t know about the kidnapping that happened to him when he was 13, and thankfully the court case was kept under wraps thanks to two detectives. He’s happy to just be Cody and that most people can’t treat him like he’s fragile over it.

Bernard struggles with impostor syndrome, he’s a perfectionist to a fault and is his own worst critic. His OCD doesn’t do him any favors, as it tends to make him hyper fixate on how he’s caused things to go wrong. He’s working on it through therapy as well as having a supportive partner on his side.

It’s not really embarrassing, but he does take his mom out on what they call ‘mom dates’ They get dressed up and just go do something fun, just the two of them. He likes being able to treat her to all the stuff they couldn’t afford when he was younger.

Is it bad he really wants to see Penny and Cody get valedictorian/salutatorian? A man can always dream.

He doesn’t have a sketchbook, just doodles around the sides of his notebooks that are random shapes. He spaces out in class and just draws random lines to see what it makes. 

👻- For something that scares or disturbs them, but they refuse to tell anyone

Not necessarily something they refuse to talk about, but during part of his enlistment he did see and do things he’s not comfortable talking about. It’s part of why he started going to VA meetings so he could talk about it with people who understand. He struggles with PTSD and his temper, and is currently in therapy to work through it.

He accidentally caused a pregnancy scare for a girl back in college, and that was really what made him crack down and research about how to have sex responsibly.

Jake has a lot of numbers blocked from his phone from girls who got too clingy and wanted to try to “fix” his lack of desire for commitment.

Jake sometimes wishes he were bisexual to widen his dating pool, but every year or so when he gets curious again and tries guys he’s never really into it.
