Mac Fix for Error 12
So basically I'm following this:
The following fix works but is for 64 bit systems. If you have a 32 bit system, look for a post on MATY called "Error Codes 12 & 13" - the extra step needed for 32 is posted in there (on one of the later pages of the thread): The game doesn't use more than 2GB. With a program found on the Internet, you can modify the EXE to allow the game to use more than 2GB. If you suffer this problem, you may want to follow these instructions and see if it helps you: 1) Download and install CFF Explorer(http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php) 2) Run the program, click the folder icon or go to FILE >> OPEN and browse your PC for the Sims 3 exe (TS3.exe) usually found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin IMPORTANT: Make a backup of your original exe because you will need to swap it back into your game folder whenever you apply patches or updates. 3) Click on File Header at the left, find characteristics at the right and click the "Click here" blue button. 4) Tick "App can handle >2GB address space 5) Ok that and save by clicking the disk icon or going to FILE >> SAVE. Overwrite the file when it asks you to. Note: You need to modify the exe file that you play your game off of - meaning TS3SP01.exe for HELS, TS3EP01.exe for WA, etc.

Firstly I would suggest you create a folder on your desktop and title it "CFF".
When you download CFF it is in .exe form and will NOT open on a mac. I tried using Mono but it didn't work for me so I used WInebottler. Tutorial here. (Follow the instructions exactly)
*I would suggest saving your app as CFF Install.
Install the app. It will be in program files as the default navigate to your desktop and install it in your CFF folder.
After installation open use Winebottler to turn CFF Explorer.exe into an app. (Name CFF)
Once this is done run CFF, go to file open and navigate to applications. I'm not sure why but the first two times the applications didn't show up. So mess w/ it until the applications show up.
Navigate to The Sims 3/ Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Game/Bin
Inside the bin find your TS3.exe file. Open it.
Then follow step 3, 4 and 5.
*Note if you are bypassing the launcher and using TS3W it's already set to greater than 2 RAM. TS3 however is not. I did both. I'll let you know my results.
