The beast rose from the depths of the molten lake, its hide caked with burning rock and ash. The air it breathed choked those around it, it’s presence emanating heat in waves, as if the world under its gaze became a desert of sulphur. Many trembled at the creatures presence, some caught in horrified awe while others fled as if pursued by hell’s wrath.

But one person saw something the others did not, within the breast of the beast a cage was embedded and within that cage was the most stunning and pitiful being they had ever laid eyes on.

As the spaceship closed in on the mysterious mass that had puzzled scientists for decades, all aboard began to feel uneasy. Though unlike anything they had ever seen, whispers spread among the crew, many noting it’s close resemblance to a life form while others questioned if any one else could feel a lingering presence when they gazed at the unknown mass. All the while the researchers aboard focused on their goal of discovery and understanding.

It was only when they where within orbital range that the thing turned around to look at them.
