Two new blocks from the other day! I’ve actually had the stoat drawn and ready to go for a while now but never got around to carving it until now. Debating whether I should add some fur texture to it or not, because this lino is softer so I’m very worried about slipping.

First three stripes come from the mammal/flower/tree themselves. Blue, yellow, green, and white are commonly found on a province/territory's flag or coat of arms. Bison [link], crocus [link], spruce [link].

Pulsatilla patens (Pasque flower - Prairie Crocus)

Pusatilla patens is a wildflower native to Europe, Russia, Mongolia, China and North America. In Canada, Pulsatilla patens (the Prairie Crocus) is the provincial flower of Manitoba and I’ve seen it growing in it’s natural habitat. 

This one’s growing in my front garden. They like a chalky soil so I beefed up my little patch with bits of beach-worn seashell. The common name Pasque flower is derived from the Hebrew word for Passover, "pasakh" as it typically flowers at Easter.
