I've been thinking about Knight of Dawn lately, again. I can't say what the exact timeline is, but what if Silver was actually still in the womb during the war?
Let's take this into consideration:
Back then, the penalty for treason is death. Depending on law/location, oftentimes penalties will effect family in varying degrees too. If Dawn was executed for treason, Silver wouldn't be old enough to inherit anything & Leah likely wouldn't either due to gender. Not only is it just bad reputation and having to find another husband, but we all know Heinrick is their greedy relative. I wouldn't put it past him to try getting rid of Silver for a number of benefits. Besides, if the war still continued, it's possible that Silver could have eventually been drafted as well.
This isn't even counting the fact that Leah would, for a while, either be a single mom trying to raise Silver all by herself while probably under stress of getting courted by scum (gold-diggers...), or she would have to get married which is FAR worse, in my opinion. Anyone who marries her for property and money wouldn't just take care of Silver. And once again, if THEY had a child? They'd also be trying to get rid of Silver so the inheritance would go into their family.
For the record, I do think most inheritance would go to Heinrick anyways as the assumedly only son, but Leah probably has a share. And status, definitely status.
