Almost finished rereading the prophecies begin and wanted to try designing some cats. started with shadowclan bc we always loved them as a kid and thought they were unfairly treated. runningnose is my fave <3

hi i got really angry about the whitestorm family tree and tpb timeline how they fucked everything all up with that damn official family tree, so here is my canon family tree.

whitestorm and willowpelt have darkstripe, then graystripe, and then their three-kit litter. in my hc darkstripe had a littermate named birchpaw that was killed in a border skirmish (with either riverclan or shadowclan, havent decided) and graystripe had a littermate named Petalkit that died in the same sickness that ravaged thunderclan during longtail's short story.

i dont have many hcs about the latter 3, i think rainwhisker is jealous of how popular sootfur is with his cool handsome stoner energy, and sorreltail becomes the mom of thunderclan with her husband brackenfur, the dad of thunderclan

Prefacing this by making it clear that it's not coming from inherent dislike for the non-Prophecies Begin books. There are a lot of plot elements and characters I did like from Warrior Cats sequel books, and I've enjoyed the Super Editions and Novella I've read.

But I'm most of the way through rereading The Darkest Hour and I'd be lying if I said there isn't a version of the story that exists in my head where it's only the first six books. I feel like as a story The Prophecies Begin is better on its own without the later books, because reading it with knowledge of future events does cheapen some of its story developments to an extent.

There's a big deal made that it can't be StarClan's will for them to leave the forest, and they have to stay and fight for it because even though this is the biggest threat it's faced, it's their home. And then in the next arc they leave because of land development.

We see a culmination for Bramblepaw's character arc where he firmly rejects Tigerstar, even saying he hates him, determined to prove that everyone's doubts about him are wrong by being a loyal, honorable cat. And then in the next arc he lets his father's ghost train him and spends a long time refusing to acknowledge that his brother is also evil.

A major moment for the final battle is StarClan reminding Firestar that there have always been five Clans in the forest, including StarClan as the fifth, helping give him the strength to fight on. And then later on we learn there was a different fifth Clan called SkyClan.

There are probably more examples that I just can't quite remember. Like I said, I do like stuff from the sequels, and there are definitely ways they improve on characters from the original books (for example, I feel like Ashpaw is kind of a nothing character, but Ashfur is far more interesting). It's really just instances where later developments feel like they lessen or undo previous ones that feel like they hurt the story upon a reread.
