kaneki hums. he’s never found himself interested in tobacco, so he’s unable to comment on the habit that the other seems to be indulging in. if it helps her calm down, so be it. he wishes he had something to help him calm down, rather than rushing into a panic every time he comes into contact with a situation that heavily favours the other person, or just overly stresses him out.
not only his anxiety, but his overwhelming kindness prevent him from being able to hunt down humans, rummage through their flesh and tear off the aspects that ghouls need to survive. which is why he’s always the one picking up the packages. not touka, not yomo, who were indifferent about acting like animals. he supposes it’s what he has to do after refusing to be part of the violence.
❝ i understand. being away from home is… ❞ horrible, he wants to say. but he forgets the word that he wants to use and lets himself trail off instead, gaze meeting vi’s.
❝ are you sure? there’s a lot of ground to cover. ❞ kaneki rubs the back of his neck, fingernails digging uncomfortably into his skin. of course, he doesn’t want to existence of ghouls to be discovered, either. and the city tends to house quite a few (according to the staff at the shop), despite how rare they actually are in the world. from what vi said before, it doesn’t seem like she would make a big deal about it, though. maybe he’s reading too far into her words, making it seem like blurting the truth would be okay.
